Kannst der Hinweis sein, der andre weiterführt, 
kannst die Zuflucht sein, wenn einer Ängste spürt, 
eine Hand, ein Weg, ein Licht, das warm und hell im Dunkel scheint, 
eine Rast, ein Halt, ein Trost, wenn einer weint.

Kannst das alles sein auf Erden, denn Gott ist den Menschen nah; 
will dein Blühen, Wachsen, Werden, ist im Segen für dich da!

2.) Darfst ein Gast sein, nicht ein Fremder vor dem Tor,

The year is slowly coming to an end -
with the smell of cookies and a Christmas tree.
The guns are silent, just a dream.
We are probably too cowardly for peace.

We celebrate like every year -
whether people are starving, fleeing, dying.
We donate our money and think of the roast:
"Will he be able to succeed?"

Christmas means two faces these days.
We pretend we're angels
but we are actually looking the other way.
Are we too cowardly to help the world or just too lazy?
Only the candles burn, not our hearts?

Reflect on what seems important.
Thinking of the many in deepest loneliness

mit dem Duft von Plätzchen und einem Weihnachtsbaum.
Die Waffen schweigen, nur ein Traum.
Wir sind wahrscheinlich zu feige für den Frieden.

Wir feiern wie jedes Jahr - 
ob Menschen hungern, fliehen, sterben.
Wir spenden unser Geld und denken an den Braten:
"Ob er wohl gelingen kann?"

It's Up To Me 2023 - Gert Holle

Two and a half years ago, I wrote a song about the extinction of species and our negligent treatment of creation: ‘The last Beluga Whale’. At the time, young people were drawing massive attention to the fact that their future was more endangered than ever. I thought about them in one verse. But what has changed to this day, except that I feel even more strongly than back then how our existence hangs by a thread. Vor zweieinhalb Jahren schrieb ich einen Song, der das Artensterben und unseren fahrlässigen Umgang mit der Schöpfung zum Inhalt hatte: "The last Beluga Whale". Damals machten junge Leute massiv darauf aufmerksam, dass ihre Zukunft stärker denn je gefährdet ist. Ich bedachte sie in einer Strophe. Doch was hat sich bis heute geändert, außer dass ich noch stärker als damals spüre, wie unsere Existenz am seidenen Faden hängt.
