THE TRUE STORY BEHIND THIS TRACK (DECLASSIFIED BY THE BPM COUNCIL):
Kendrick Lamar. Germany. 1997. Time travel. Eurotrance. Emotional damage. Pineapple juice.

Before Money Trees ever existed, before Kendrick even rapped, there was a prophecy. Scrawled into a vending machine behind a Berlin Späti, in ancient German rave runes, it read:

“When the trees start printing money,
the child of Compton must dance to the rhythm of eternal lasers.”

Most people ignored it. But not Hans, the blind techno shaman of Neukölln, who wore a feather boa made entirely of expired festival wristbands. He knew the prophecy pointed to one man — Kendrick.

Flash forward to 2011. Kendrick is in LA, vibing hard, sipping Capri Sun, when a pigeon crashes through his window holding a microcassette labeled “PLAY ME OR THE SUN EXPLODES.” Curious and mildly bored, Kendrick pops it into his Hello Kitty boombox.

What plays?
152 BPM eurotrance with a sample of his future self whispering, “It was always deeper than rap... it was about the drop.”

Suddenly, the floor splits open and swallows Kendrick whole. He wakes up in Berlin, 1997, wearing mesh pants and a glowstick monocle. “Where am I?” he mutters. A German child on rollerblades skates past yelling, “Willkommen beim BPM-Tempel!” before exploding into glitter.

This is where it all begins.

Kendrick wanders into a warehouse rave shaped like a giant Game Boy. Inside: lasers, fog, and 3,000 people wearing nothing but high-vis vests and philosophical trauma. The DJ booth is shaped like a floating pyramid. There, a figure waits — it’s Uberan Mino, interdimensional trance prophet and mild oatmeal enthusiast.

“Your song… Money Trees... it has potential,” Mino says while breakdancing horizontally.
“But it lacks… euphoria. It lacks… the bounce of a thousand BPM gods.”

Kendrick, sweating NyQuil and confusion, agrees.

What followed was a three-day rave ceremony where Mino surgically removed the chill from Money Trees and injected 152 BPM directly into its bloodstream. The beat mutated. The melody began to glow. Kendrick rapped backwards in Swahili while two ravers in moonboots performed taxes mid-air. An IKEA lamp became sentient and declared itself the Minister of Bass. A woman gave birth to a fog machine.

By the end, Kendrick looked up at the stars and whispered,
“Ya bish.”

This track — this remix — is the only remaining proof of that journey. Recovered from a floppy disk Kendrick had stapled to his left eyebrow. Smuggled back to our time by Mino during the Great Reverb War of 2020.

So next time you hear the drop and feel like planting a money tree in your neighbor’s yard using nothing but vibes and glitter… just know:

It was always meant to sound like this.
It was always trance.
It was always… ya bish.
