Initially gaining notoriety in the vibrant NYC techno scene, Akua's one-of-kind, no-nonsense style brings a necessary & poignant intensity to today’s dancefloors, rejecting trends and embodying the essence of techno into an authentic wavelength that’s completely intuitive to her being. This all plays out on this week's Glitch podcast as the Berlin-based Ghanaian-American DJ rips through with her signature blend of techno, fused with a punk edge. We had the pleasure of taking you from the night into sunrise through many sub-genres in our record collection. It felt so good having the freedom to craft the set exactly how we wanted on a setup that had been perfectly tweaked by Lyra Audio + crew over the course of 2 days.   

We spent around 6 months planning this event. Everything from the lighting (@seanclarke) to the sound, personally applying for a TEN to use the space (that’s another story altogether) and how the event would run.
 
When you have all the these other variables running alongside an event it can be difficult to lock into the set at your own party but this time everything worked out and we’re really excited to share the memory of this special night. 

Thanks to everyone that made it down and helped in anyway, it’ll always stay with us, this one <3

For BASEMENT 008, we've turned things over to Holden Federico.   A favorite of the NY underground, Federico holds a reputation both for his comprehensive knowledge of techno's most obscure corners and for his capacity to channel his sprawling collection into DJ sets of exceptional poise and vibrancy. Raised in Pennsylvania, an early fascination with software production led him from live music into an obsession with track building and the limitless possibilities of electronic music. In 2020, he launched @90stechno.redux, an online platform that catalogues some of the finest, and often nearly-unheard, examples of the genre's golden age. Drawing heavily on the Detroit-Berlin axis, Federico exemplifies the focus and discernment of a purist, engaging with techno both as a true art form and as a near-spiritual discipline.

BASEMENT introduces BASEMENT Archives, a new podcast series highlighting standout sets recorded live in the club. 

First up is the impromptu b2b2b2b from Fadi Mohem, Kancheli, NDRX and Philippa Pacho that closed out last April’s Bassiani takeover. If you were there, you know how special this night was. Ten minutes before we planned to wrap the night, it was decided that the music simply could not stop. The four artists took over the booth in BASEMENT, and what resulted was 3 hours of euphoric techno that sent everyone out on an incredible high. These are moments that can’t be planned, curated or recreated. When they happen, you pray the recorder is on and running. Thank god it was.
