In a musical landscape dominated by American and Commonwealth producers, Bass Music's eastern European vanguards are an often-undersung breed of impressive composers and engineers. The Rust's most recent addition to our release catalog is a stalwart Siberian producer by the name of Coout, brandishing his first full length release, Time to Believe. 

Coout's style takes a heavy influence from a range of garage and breakbeat styles, fusing transient percussion and low-slung bass lines that rattle along harmonic peaks. Time to Believe coalesces these influences into a seven track album that focuses on emotive arrangements, delivering powerful phrases with a particular degree of harmony and ample vocal sampling. Blending rhythmic staccato with pulsing sub frequencies is the wheelhouse that Coout draws his primary strengths from, and he successfully pulls off his interpretation of full-spectrum music through clever breaks, tight turnarounds, and a generous serving of spatial swelling. 

For those who are looking for a relaxed infusion of rhythm, soul, and synthesis, Time to Believe should be the next must-have on your record wishlist.

Ethnic Parallel, out April 8th on Gravitas Recordings, is a new beginning for Mr. Ours as he pushes his sound and capabilities to further grow. When the world was initially put on lockdown and the future felt uncertain, Mr. Ours decided to take that time to reflect on what his typical working methods were, and focus back on his musical roots. He 
believed this was the perfect time to evolve his sound while producing what feels most true to himself. Ethnic Parallel is an inspiring journey to the heart of music and its diversity. Mr. Ours invites us, through his colorful and exotic tracks, to leave what we know, to discover new sound and musical horizons. Between bass music, trap and world music, "Ethnic Parallel" is an inspiring and powerful EP at the same time.

“Good Music” introduces the EP with gritty guitar strokes, and striking bass punches quickly approach as the initial drop, setting the tone for what’s to come. The organic dynamic of the track makes it easy to get lost in rhythm of what the song has to offer. “This Is a Sample” opens up with lively synths, encompassing a worldy atmosphere. Inspiring sounds that seamlessly weave together, showing off Mr. Ours musical capabilities of utilizing various samples to create a unique track. “Gamelan Trip” sprinkles in a blend of trap and bass elements making the listener curious. Hard hitting drums paired with colorful bass create a lively energy that you won’t want to end. “Monk Keyz” comes in with gritty keyboard notes and punches in with bass that will have the floor shaking. When the first drop hits, you can feel the sense of maturity within the sound, already making it stand out in a new and refreshing way. A deep humming  that accompanies the song throughout the track showcases the ethnic twist Mr. Ours incorporated, standing true to what Ethnic Parallel is about.

Coming off the success of his previous singles released on the Gravitas Infusion series, Orenda returns to Gravitas Recordings to make his full EP debut with Reverie. For his first time working on a musical project of this magnitude, Trevor wanted to contribute to the emerging world bass scene. Reverie is inspired by the marriage of ethereal musical elements with aggressive, powerful bass. Representing a battle between light and darkness, which combat overhead a fusion of world music influences, all seven tracks present the stark contrast on both sides.

Listeners are transported to a majestic land in the title track “Reverie,” hastily greeted by an enchantress who observes the battle as light and darkness collide into a powerful bass. Produced alongside Equanimous, tribal chants are consistently relayed in "Mystic Descent" to accompany the beautiful soundscape and chill oscillations that follow. Cackles precede deep dub in “Numinus” as darkness strategizes its plan of attack. On the other side, the light warriors prepare for the next battle within a dark cave, while mystical currents flow through the water to provide strength in “Marmoris.” Glitch and dub unify in “Fracture,” lamenting on the ruptured state of the land. “You Know” is the calm before the storm, as a vibey bass prepares each side for its last chance at triumph. Featuring DTO, “Gāyatrī” concludes Orenda’s debut EP as each side embarks on an ethnic expedition towards the battlegrounds.
