They say waiting is always the hardest part. Everyone knows that feeling, the mix of nervousness, impatience and excitement. You’re a few minutes away from watching your favorite band perform, you’ve just bought a new instrument and can’t wait to get home and play on it, you’re in an airport, waiting to get on that plane which will take you home. But you know that there’s a small part of you which is guiltily savoring the wait, some little corner of your mind that is enjoying the suspense. That is what Anticipation is all about.

5. Anticipation (First Flight)

Cryptically titled, Terminal 14, is the oldest and crunchiest song to appear in the setlist. Somewhere back in 2008, Kaushik came up with the certain riffs and bends that synced with Maru’s initial experiments with odd signatures. Just like good wine and a classical guitar, it only got better with age. An exciting amalgamation of crisp distortion and mind bending time signatures that finally culminates with a world class dual solo is what will, henceforth, be known as, Terminal 14.

4. Terminal 14 (First Flight)

Although rhythmic experimentation is a recurring theme in this album, none of the other songs have taken it up on as big a scale as Just in TIme. While Maru, Nikil and Balu laid down the foundation for this song based on a riff that Shiva brought to the table, Sai Raman’s enthusiasm and virtuosity on the tabla that added a whole new flavor to the composition. Whether or not a Master’s course in Industrial Engineering (Operations Research is close enough, Nikil, don’t complain) has taught members of the band anything, its concepts have given a song with varying time signatures a suitable name.

3. Just in Time (First Flight)

What happens when you cage 5 completely different people together over the seemingly endless tedium of a 10 hour drive? The Drive follows the journey of a conceited brat, a calm and collected person, a depressed guy, a jovial chap and an aggressive and obsessively compulsive musician. Thoughts are shared, arguments explode and jokes are cracked. In the end, it makes you wonder: are these 5 really all that different from one another?

2. The Drive (First Flight)

Starting off as a chord-drum-bass jam inspired by the nightly servings of coffee during exams week in the D-block hostels of Vellore Institute of Technology, this song has since been infused with the crisp, emotive sounds of Varadarajan’s violins, adding the perfect ingredient to complete the rich brew.
