Glad to share with you the first volume of our new mix series, lazed. A monthly rendez-vous imagined as a new playground of musical expression focused on listening music. 

For this first episode, we're glad to welcome the artist Elvira. Inspired by her different sound practices in the performing arts and the electro-acoustic environment, she owns a very singular take on electronic music that is slowly making its way to ears around Europe. 

Elvira: « I imagined a cockroach wandering in a desert, the sun hitting hard causing dehydration leading to hallucinations. Sometimes voices appear, other times insects squeak. At some point the cockroach is tormented cus it falls on his back and is incapable of turning around. »

This is a homage to "Music of Changes" by John Cage.

"Ten spectators arbitrarily select one of the ten records that the player prepared in advance and choose one song. The player has to play the ten songs from ten records in the order chosen by the ten spectators. Five minutes after the first song is played, play the second song and leave it alone. After another five minutes have elapsed, the playback of the first song is stopped, and the third song is immediately played and left again. Even the song finished before five minutes have elapsed, the player may not exchange it for the next song. The player must wait until five minutes have elapsed. The player repeats this process until all ten songs chosen by the spectators have been played. The passage of five minutes is signaled to the player by the sound of wind chimes."

Chee Shimizu (@organicchee) has carved out a significant presence as a DJ, both in Japan and on the international stage, showcasing a versatile and free-form playing style that spans genres like avantgarde, dance, experimental, and Japanese music. Widely recognized for his pivotal role in Tokyo's esteemed Organic Music record store and the 17853 Record label, he also hosts a monthly radio show on NTS. Shimizu is a versatile music professional, contributing as a music selector, compiler, writer, producer, and remixer. His impact extends to live sessions with improvisers, and in February 2021, he released the album "Chee Shimizu + miku-mari" on the ESP Institute label in LA. Acknowledged for his expertise, he is also celebrated as the author of the widely acclaimed book "Obscure Sound" in Japan and beyond.

There must be something in the Barcelonian water, as today we’re happy to premiere a track from a recently developed anonymous project called Bastien. Formed as a new expression of music from the Spanish cities rich scene, the source unknown, yet the quality incredible as always. The 10 track release is a masterclass in rich, emotive Ambient that marks the second fantastic release on Spanish label ‘Red Edge’. With whom we’ve worked with in the past to premiere a prior Absis release.

Ralentir starts off strong with a bouncing melody, flipping up and down, giving movement and a lighter atmosphere joined by a few disembodied voices providing an otherworldly effect. This effect is amplified by a uniquely elongated bass line that takes a listener farther out into the experimental planes, and contrasts nicely with the bright melodies.

Ralentir and the remainder of the ‘Temps Boro’ release will be out on Red Edge, April 8th.
