The song gives a modern twist to eighties synth and drum sounds, Corné explains:
"Chasing Shadows was born from a desire to reproduce the classic sounds of the eighties, and bring Go the Rodeo's sound into those spheres.
The lyrics revolve around the insecurities of being alone, and the fear of feeling incomplete when you don't find the correct person. I've wasted a lot of time and energy pursuing that idea, and ultimately pursuing the wrong person. Looking back now, I realize that I was chasing shadows."

South African electro alt-rock duo announces Wolve, a single that addresses mental health in relationships.

Go the Rodeo's latest single dives into the role of depression in relationships, and being able to overcome mental health struggles together. Although the song opens with a dark, edgy tone, it segues into a more vibrant sound, and explosive bridge. The dark tone is contrasted by positive lyrics, and a hopeful outcome.

Writer and vocalist Corné elaborates: "Wolve was written over a period of 2 years, and a lot of time was spent getting it to a point where I was happy with it. When I wrote the riff and the original chorus, I was in a dark mental place, but eventually I decided to lift the song out of that darkness, and give it a positive feeling. Wolve's lyrics are a story about my own dark thoughts, and how my significant other's presence is able to lift me out of those thoughts. She had suffered personal trauma in that time, which overwhelmed her one evening, and in that moment it made me realize that she also struggles with similar thoughts, which made me feel even closer to her. We both have that wolf inside of us."

Vultures is a song about the agony and struggle of trying to reach your dreams, but being pulled back into reality every time you get close. For vocalist Corné the meaning stretches into attempts to leave South Africa, and the economic and emotional difficulty faced by that notion. He begs to be cut loose from the leash before it becomes a noose, essentially killing him, or killing the dream. In the same breath, the song also talks about a woman, which leads to a second metaphor: the duality of loving someone so much that you don't want to let go of the thought of them, yet subconsciously begging for that person to cut you loose before it destroys you.

When I wrote Give Me Black, I was in a bit of a dark mental space - caught up in new feelings that brought up a lot of confusion and anxiety. It was during this time that I had a serious look at my own mental health for the first time. The song plays with the idea of rather not feeling anything, than to feel a range of destructive emotions. The chorus was written in a sarcastic tone, in a "I love it when you use me" kind of way. We transitioned from electronic drums, into full drums in the drop, just to get the heavier sound we wanted to achieve. Although we would've loved to do a music video, unfortunately time and budget constraints were against us, and I ended up expanding the flat artwork into a lyric video.

Never C Ur Face Again is our second music video, and overall we decided to take a less serious route than we took with most of our other tracks. The song itself has a very "tongue-in-cheek" theme about it, and was written after I had dreamt the melody and guitar line. I woke up in the middle of the night, still half asleep, and recorded the line on my phone. The next morning I pretty much finished the structure, and we refined the song over a course of a few months. The idea of "be so good to never see your face again" must've been stuck in my subconscious, and stemmed from those moments where you go on social media, and you see that certain person's face. How one picture can completely mess up your day.

The video was something we decided to keep simple, to give people a bit of a glimpse of what we're like, especially those who haven't seen us live. I've always been intrigued by the seventies, so building the set was a tonne of fun, and surprisingly easy. We just ended up taking a bunch of old crap from my parents' house, and slapping doilies on everything.
I'm also a big Hellcats fan, so getting Warwick to feature on the track was a dream come true. I've drawn a lot of inspiration and motivation from their live shows, and they're so rad to hang out with.

Devil on my shoulder is an exploration of the shadow from Jungian psychology. It expands on the idea of wanting to embrace your shadow and throw all caution to the wind.
I came up with the idea for the song after a breakup: Filled with anger, and an urge to be self-destructive, I opened the first verse with her direct words "please don't be reckless".
A lot of people don't see their dark side as a part of them, and tend to blame it on an external entity, namely "the devil". As a kid whenever I was being disobedient I was told that devil was on my shoulder telling me to do bad things, so in this song I expanded on that idea.

We decided to work with an old friend, and exceptional producer, Tjaart van Der Walt. When we approached him, he was absolutely thrilled with the track. He went to work and we were blown away with the result.

Go the Rodeo is an idea not bound by a certain sound, or specific genre. We aim to express our emotions, frustrations and passion through music, and share this with the world. We’re not trying to entertain or compete, but rather connect, and create a vibe that brings you closer to yourself and others.  
In 2018 we’ll be joining Jampacked Productions together with multiple South African and international bands in an effort to raise R1 million for the Rocking for Rhinos foundation.
