The title refers to a flock of birds flying away. The treble and tenor recorders were chosen due to their expressive and deep sounds, ideal to express the contemplative feeling of the flight itself and the absence of the birds that no longer exist, destroyed by the action of fire in nature or man's deforresting. It is not as a descriptive piece but an expression  of profound indignation towards the present misuse of nature by man.
