Με το όνομα Ζωοδόχος Πηγή του Μπαλουκλί ή Παναγία η Μπαλουκλιώτισσα φέρεται ιερό χριστιανικό αγίασμα που βρίσκεται στη Κωνσταντινούπολη έξω από τη δυτική πύλη της Σηλυβρίας, όπου υπήρχαν τα λεγόμενα "παλάτια των πηγών" στα οποία οι Βυζαντινοί Αυτοκράτορες παραθέριζαν την Άνοιξη. Πήρε την ονομασία του από το τουρκικό όνομα Balık (= ψάρι) και περιλαμβάνει το μοναστήρι, την εκκλησία και το αγίασμα. Για την αποκάλυψη του Αγιάσματος υπάρχει η κάτωθι εκδοχή:
Μας εξιστορεί ο Νικηφόρος Κάλλιστος και αναφέρει ότι: Ο μετέπειτα Αυτοκράτορας Λέων ο Θράξ ή Λέων ο Μέγας (457 - 474 μ.Χ.), όταν ερχόταν ως απλός στρατιώτης στην Κωνσταντινούπολη, συνάντησε στη Χρυσή Πύλη έναν τυφλό που του ζήτησε νερό. Ψάχνοντας γιά νερό, μιά φωνή του υπέδειξε την πηγή. Πίνοντας ο τυφλός και ερχόμενο το λασπώδες νερό στα μάτια του θεραπεύτηκε. Όταν αργότερα έγινε Αυτοκράτορας, του είπε η προφητική φωνή, πως θα έπρεπε να χτίσει δίπλα στην πηγή μια Εκκλησία. Πράγματι ο Λέων έκτισε μια μεγαλοπρεπή εκκλησία προς τιμή της Θεοτόκου στο χώρο εκείνο, τον οποίο και ονόμασε «Πηγή». Ο Κάλλιστος περιγράφει τη μεγάλη αυτή Εκκλησία με πολλές λεπτομέρειες, αν και η περιγραφή ταιριάζει περισσότερο στό οικοδόμημα του Ιουστινιανού. Ιστορικά πάντως είναι εξακριβωμένο, ότι το 536 μ.Χ. στη Σύνοδο της Κωνσταντινουπόλεως, υπό τον Πατριάρχη Μηνά 536 - 552 μ.Χ.), λαμβάνει μέρος και ο Ζήνων, ηγούμενος «του Οίκου της αγίας ενδόξου Παρθένου και Θεοτόκου Μαρίας εν τη Πηγή».

Ο Άγιος Γρηγόριος ο Παλαμάς ήταν δεινός θεολόγος και διαπρεπέστατος ρήτορας και φιλόσοφος. Πέθανε το 1360 μ.Χ. και τιμήθηκε αμέσως σαν Άγιος. Ο Πατριάρχης Φιλόθεος, έγραψε το 1376 μ.Χ. εγκωμιαστικό λόγο στο Γρηγόριο Παλαμά, μαζί και ακολουθία και όρισε την εκκλησιαστική μνήμη του στη Β' Κυριακή της Μ. Τεσσαρακοστής.

St. Gregory Palamas was an avid theologian and diaprepestatos orator and philosopher. He died in 1360 AD and was honored as a Saint immediately. The Patriarch Philotheos wrote in 1376 AD speaking in praise of Gregory Palamas, along the sequence and set the church in memory of the Second Sunday of Great Lent.

The Akathist Hymn is a Service of the Orthodox Church that invites the faithful to rejoice in the unique and sublime role the Virgin Mary played in the salvation of mankind.

The Divine Incarnation is at the heart of this glorious telling in the form of hymns and prose, for it in the Virgin's own womb that God became man. In extolling the Blessed Virgin, the Church is fulfilling the Scriptures of her own prophesy which states that "henceforth all generations shall call me blessed" (Lk. 1:48), and in the words of the inspired Elizabeth, "blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb." (Lk. 1:42). May we stand with the Angel Gabriel, who was sent from heaven to proclaim the Good Tidings to the young Virgin.
