His genome, sequenced in 2013, revealed groundbreaking insights into human migration: the boy belonged to a population known as Ancient North Eurasians, genetically intermediate between modern Europeans and Native Americans, but distant from East Asians—suggesting early waves of people crossed the Bering land bridge from Siberia to populate the Americas, while others spread westward into Europe.
