premiered platform8, tuneside.  exploration of escaping asylums and subsequent journeyings towards fragile freedoms.  title derives from a letter in which john clare wrote of the asylum he was then in 'i think it is about two years since i was first sent up in this hell and french bastille of english liberty'.   this text / soundscape accompanies the performance

originally made a whiles back outta wind hitting mike, trams, grass blowing in wind, glass bottles rolling,  kids at play, wire fences being rattled and a spring in mid-wales (hydrophone).  being told way back 'ooh thats brave, letting wind hit a mike' - nuuuh, that sound stills our mind n tinnitus - heres recent reworking following same comment about wind hitting mike

collision of previous continental soundworks.  broken-word recordings toured outta potsdam early 2000's now cancelled of all but sharp intakes of breath; fragments of flute (ta thomas) after midnight in german-woods; prague-talk; our ancient dog

defenestration

sonic response to the good soldier švejk outta jaroslav hašek's unfinished novel.  a touchstone since we first stole it age15 ... books about obscenities of world war one thru eyes of 'certified imbecile' (a strategy for survival) its writer / rioter hašek also faked news; got thrown out of russian revolutions for being too enthusiastic; n wrote about obeying the law to slow everything right down.  czechoslovakia was our fave word as kid just by sound.  our fave cake in the world is czech republics medovik.  most at home in prague, pity it don't have coastline (yet).  czechs invented surrealism hundreds of years ago when they defenestered richfolx (threw them out windows)

and lamenting - home, l / and  - inner ear wings love cries (loving, cry)
