Liber Necris - derived from ancient egyptian mythology; Liber Necris was the "Book of the Dead'; used to relinquish the dead and lost souls to their righteous place.

The consistently flourishing Leeds scene can now boast Liber Necris in their list of underground successes. The band formed in 2010 and true to their genre they made a trip to Hertz Studio in Poland to record their first EP. Death metal fans will already recognise the name as the place where now legendary acts such as Behemoth, Decapitated and Hate forged their sound. Since then they’ve switched singers and local boy Simon Wright (Canaya, Krokodil) has stepped in to add his harrowing vocal style to the now broadening Liber Necris sound. Guitarists Chris Binns and Chris Sweet write riffs that most black metal bands wish they could even play while bassist James Clegg and drummer Tom Mulvihill are one of the tightest rhythm sections in UK metal.

Their latest EP “Negative Creator” was recorded by Rob Hobson at Silent City and will be released through Venn Records on 7th April. The four songs are a great display of writing, musicianship and just plain evil.

“In a scene where so many bands fail to stand out Liber Necris have the ability to create songs that are both memorable and also somewhat nostalgic. I remember being in the studio working on the Krokodil album and Simon playing me some songs. It reminded me of being a teenager listening to Obituary and Cannibal Corpse but this was instantly better. Liber Necris have a real black metal feel to it but it’s way more intense.”
