"Dark Eyes" (Russian: Очи чёрные), or Black Eyes, is a well-known and popular Russian romance. The lyrics were written by the poet and writer Yevhen Hrebinka and first published on January 17, 1843. The melody associated with the lyrics has been borrowed from the "Valse hommage", Op. 21 for piano, written by Florian Hermann and published in 1879.
The Russian singer Feodor Chaliapin popularized a version of "Dark Eyes" with changes to the lyrics and additional verses. Another popular version was written by an Italian-born British composer Adalgiso Ferraris. It was first published in 1910 as "Schwarze Augen" (Black Eyes).The song became one of his major successes in the 1920s and 1930s; his version was played by Albert Sandler and Leslie Jeffries in 1939 and sung by Al Bowlly as "Black Eyes" in 1939 with words of Albert Mellor. Max Jaffa also recorded it.

Dorogoi Dlinnoyu (Дорогой длинною), "By That Night Road Long"

Now the song is widely regarded as a folk one, sometimes even a Gypsy one. It is sometimes performed in the gypsy manner. However, the song is not old. Initially the lyrics and the music for this worldwide famous Russian romance were written by the Russian composer Boris Ivanovich Fomin (1900 - 1948). The song was written especially for the singer and poetess Elisabeth Borisovna Belogorskaya, who performed on stage with lyrical songs, and for whose concerts the composer Fomin worked as an accompanist for years. Later a new version of the lyrics appeared with the text finalized by the now forgotten poet Constantine Podrevskiy (1888 - 1930). Officially it is believed that the song dates from 1924, but the existence of two text variations make some explorers believe that it appeared already in 1917. However, the most famous Russian performer of the song "By The Night Road Long" became the phenomenal Alexander Vertinskiy, with the version written by Boris Fomin. The romance became world famous though with the text by Podrevskiy.

Ciocârlia (meaning the skylark) is a Romanian tune, allegedly composed by the Romani-Romanian pan flute player Angheluş Dinicu in the virtuosic style of the urban lăutarească music from late 19th century.
Angheluş Dinicu first presented the tune in 1889 at the inauguration of the Eiffel Tower. However, the most famous version would become that of his grandson Grigoraș Dinicu, that adapted the tune for violin. George Enescu also was inspired by Ciocârlia for his composition the Romanian Rhapsody No. 1 for orchestra.
Ciocârlia has been covered numerous times, but because it is a piece of lăutărească music and not a piece of Romanian peasant music it cannot be considered representative for the Romanian peasant spirit.
In the case of the Ciocârlia, like with other famous tunes of lăutărească music, there were attempts to hide the name of the composer in order to make it seem anonymous/traditional.[4]
It is known as Ševa (Шева) and čučuliga (Чучулига) in Serbian, Bulgarian and Macedonian. It has also become highly popular in the Jewish Klezmer repertoire.[5] In Georgia, the tune became widely adopted into traditional folk music repertoire and is known as "Torola" (ტოროლა, the lark)
During the communist era, the Romanian intelligence service operated a numbers station believed to be used by spies in foreign countries. The station known as "V01" became well known for its use of Ciocârlia as its opening interval, which would be followed by a series of number-coded messages in Romanian and concluded with the words "Terminat." The station fell out of the air soon after the 1989 coup and overthrow of Ceausescu.
The song was featured as part of the soundtrack for the 2009 Ubisoft game Rabbids Go Home, performed by Moldovan gypsy brass band Fanfare Vagabontu.

"Pacsirta Die Lerche"/Ciocârlia (meaning the skylark)/-Grigoraș Ionică Dinicu

"Csárdás" (or "Czardas") is a rhapsodical concert piece by the Italian composer Vittorio Monti. Written in 1904, the folkloric piece is based on a Hungarian csárdás. It was originally composed for violin, mandolin, or piano. There are arrangements for orchestra and for a number of solo instruments. "Csárdás" is about four-and-a-half minutes in duration.
The piece has seven different sections, usually of a different tempo (and, occasionally, key). The first half of the piece is in D minor; it modulates to D major, then back to D minor, and then finally finishes in D major.
It is generally expected that the piece is performed with some rubato. There are also many dynamic changes, ranging from pianissimo to fortissimo. In the Meno, quasi lento section, the violin plays artificial harmonics. This involves the violinist placing their finger down on the note and playing another note, with the finger only just touching the string 5 semitones above. This gives the effect of the violin sounding two octaves (24 semitones) higher.
