Two students with different backgrounds and perspectives.

Hussain is a young man who grew up in a small town in Sudan doing his degree programme at Universiti Malaya to learn more about Gender and Social Development. 

Aishah is a young woman who grew up in a busy city in Malaysia. She is a Liberal Science student from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) doing a mobility programme at University Malaya to explore her own interests in Gender Studies.

After weeks of learning about Gender and Masculinity, both students have interesting takes and personal views when talking about masculinity. They share what they think what masculinity is and how it is good or bad in social interactions and also in society.

Hussain views masculinity, especially toxic masculinity, as something bad, and he is aware of the negative impacts it has on young boys and men. He wishes to change the mindset of men that masculinity only means brave and strong.

Aishah views masculinity as a man being himself. She realises there are plenty of stigmas surrounding masculinity and how toxic masculinity have serious effects on, not just on young boys, but also to society as well. She especially recognises how some toxic masculinity traits are also romanticised in media and that needs to change.
