Mésange is a collaboration between violinist Agathe Max (Kuro) and guitarist Luke Mawdsley (Cavalier Song). Their music is possessed and steered by a solemn power that embraces the elements and careers through dense electric skies; exposing signs that flutter and flare in dark elegance. Respective strings correspond and meander across ancient fields, while layered voices evoke serene pools of tropic sound, soon to be engulfed by inescapable tides of noise. Unfettered, yet critical, Mésange invites the listener to explore a downy and magnetic earth-scape, teetering between lightning and thunderclap. The tracks unfold like magic spells, each evoking chimes of hope, despair, freedom and oblivion.
As a graduate in electro-acoustic composition, Agathe Max has worked within a range of indistinct disciplines including, sound design for experimental film, theatre, contemporary dance and other visual art forms. Agathe uses improvisation to explore a dark(er) materiality rooted in ritual, myth and the supernatural. Agathe Max’s latest recording A Gypsy in a Church (2016) is a daring 22 minute acoustic improvisation, weaving post-classical motifs into a beguiling and hypnotic tapestry that utters speculations on sacred identity and heritage. Other creative actions have included the OFIELD project, processing and forging environmental soundscapes for an imagined utopia/dystopia. Intrinsically embedded within the traditions of electro-acoustic composition, Agathe has collaborated within an eclectic scope of artists, including Rhys Chatham, Carla Bozulich, Jonathan Kane, Yoko Higashi, Animal Hospital and Melt-Banana.
Luke Mawdsley is a musician and composer, solo artist, collaborator and guitarist in Cavalier Song. His work meditates on the human condition, stirring memory and desire within musical definitions of a terrific sublime. The results are a series of lush, yet darkly affective, symphonic abstractions weaving in and around melancholic myths and narratives.  Luke deploys a post-minimalist sensibility, referencing a range of art forms and fascinations for repetition, unconventional rhythms and poetic design.

Slow, heavy, repetitiveness from Dead Neanderthals / Sex Swing / Mugstar members. Twin Sister are drone heavy and influenced by krautrock and doom bringing a slow burning blend of low tuned noise. 

Formed in the Netherlands in 2019 by Jason Stoll, Otto Kokke and Rene Aquarius the band headed to White Noise Studio in the winter of 2019 to record this their debut album. Taking a minimal approach where less is more repetition is the key here. Taking a simple riff and repeating the phrase over and over, creates a hypnotic texture that some resembles a trance like state.

This month Natasha hosts Sons of Vilijems, an experimental duo based in London, which comprises Nejc Haberman, bass player of the Ethno - jazz ensemble Jazoo and Andrea Giommi, composer, guitarist and bassist for psych - noise acts as The Emerald Leaves, Edible Woman and Leg Leg. In the tail end of 2018, the band has started writing and performing live with film composer Filip Sijanec, an award-winning composer and musician based in London (www.filipsijanec.com). The collaboration has expanded their sonic world and their range of solutions as live performers. Their music is based on the stark contrast of their individual musical styles, resulting in a mostly instrumental magmatic and fluid groovy ambient.  
"This podcast is a journey through our music and how it is influenced by the artists we meet and collaborate with; it is also an open conversation with the city where we live and play.  Our nocturnal sound is getting richer and richer with grooves and rhythms, we are increasingly mixing our atmospheric and cinematic approach with a distinctive rhythmic urgency and percussive taste. We asked a few fellow artists to contribute with their music to this podcast: Danalogue x Sarathy with their brilliant song 'Inner Space' from their recent release 'Equinox', Becker and Mukai with 'The Double' from their outstanding album 'Time very near', Rainbow Island with from their latest juicy release 'Illmatrix'. We included some brief excerpts by our very Andrea Giommi's new material; this is just a minuscule anticipation to his album that will be released in 2021. "Have a good swim in total darkness!

October 2020 brings the release of Splintered Metal Sky, the long-awaited new installment in the ever vast musical cannon of WHITE HILLS. The album takes the listener on a post-punk, psychedelic ride fueled by industrial-strength fuzz and propelled by powerful beats where songs weave in and out of each other to imitate the rhythm of the city the band calls home. Splintered Metal Sky is about oscillation and evolution. It’s metamodern music looking at human existence in relation to technology and the hyper-driven architectural reshaping of a city. The music was largely inspired by the drone and roar of machinery pulsing through New York City, which is in a never-ending state of demolition and reconstruction. Dave and Ego took to the streets, gathering field recordings of sounds from the subway, drills, jackhammers, people in parks, traffic, mayhem and the occasional silence. These recordings were then manipulated and constructed into rhythmic lines that were used as the basis for songs. The music, mixing noise with disciplined beat, embodies the paradoxical nature of the city: the grimy littered dead end alley just steps away from the sleek luxury skyscraper; the half eaten chicken bone being devoured by a rat on the subway tracks just beneath the glittering facade of the Chrysler building; the endless milling about of the 8 million people who call this slab of land home on their way to and from everywhere and nowhere. Informed by industrial innovators Einstürzende Neubauten and SPK, the avant garde post-punk of Tuxedomoon and the dub-electro of Cabaret Voltaire, the album vibrates with the energy of a sensually feral, raw beast. 

The band recorded and mixed Splintered Metal Sky at Studio G in Brooklyn with producer/engineer Jeff Berner (Psychic TV). WHITE HILLS previously worked with Jeff for the Valley King Records release of the single Putting On The Pressure. The album features numerous guest appearances. The idea to recruit collaborators came after a meeting between Ego and fellow Only Lovers Left Alive alumni, Lebanese singer, Yasmine Hamdan, while she was in NYC recording with former Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley. The band asked her to add vocals to a song and she jumped at the opportunity, which led to a stunning vocal performance on the track Rats. Energized by the collaboration, Dave & Ego decided to approach other cohorts to join in. This led to guest appearances by filmmaker and musician Jim Jarmusch (ambient guitar on c:CoNSTRUCT & Illusion), Simone Marie Butler of Primal Scream (vocals on Honesty) and former Cop Shoot Cop and current member of Human Impact Jim Coleman (synth on Numbers & c:CoNSTRUCT). Each person added their own flavor and perspective, pushing the songs to places not before imagined by the duo. Running with the idea of collaboration, Dave decided to work with someone on the cover concept. In came longtime friend of Dave’s Johnny Brewton, who has quite a resume of his own in the art world, having worked with and for Mark Motherbaugh at Mutato Muzika, Tom Waits, Hunter S. Thompson and Charles Bukowski to name a few. He is the man behind XRay Book Co, who produce art publications like XRay Magazine, and Bagazine. Upon the two discussing the concept of Splintered Metal Sky, Johnny went to work cutting up images and constructing the concept visually through the medium of collage.
