This is Morning Song waking your heart to an ancient Welsh legend. Take a walk through a magical forest to the legendary home of Dinas Emrys and King Arthur. As the legend goes, a red dragon sleeps beneath the ancient ruins of Dinas Emrys. It is the red dragon in the flag of Wales, the red dragon of the Castle Dinas Emrys, also claimed to be the legendary home of King Arthur and the wizard Merlin. Now a ruin, Dinas Emrys tells the legend of Wales. King Vortigern wanted to build a castle on top of Dinas Emrys, but every night his castle walls would fall. The wizard Merlin claimed there were two dragons fighting beneath the hill that caused the walls to fall. So Vortigern dug into the mountain and released the two dragons. The red and white dragons fought. Eventually the red dragon prevailed, returning to his lair. Vortigern’s castle was built and named Dinas Emrys in honor of Myrddin Emrys, Merlin the wizard. Today Morning Song invites you on a magical walk upon the trail through the oak forest of Dinas Emrys. This is Folk Soup taking you back in time today to some centuries-old folk songs known as the Child Ballads, of which folklorist Francis J. Child saved for posterity. Child was an American scholar and educator known for his systematic study, collecting, and cataloging of folk ballads, even then centuries old, around 1850. Many of these songs originate from medieval or renaissance periods. All these ballads as they get passed down through generations, can change significantly with new lyrics and melodies. No matter if it’s from Nashville, Romania, the Andes mountains, New York City, your front porch, back yard or kitchen table. It’s all good. If it’s good? I throw it in the folk soup! I am in love with folklore. If you really listen to my programs, you’ll learn a lot too. That’s what makes Folk Soup enjoyed by the entire family. I never hesitate to mix up great lyric writing, production, arrangement, vocals and musical interest with some humor and intelligence, if I can.

Look for "MS" in title to indicate Morning Song episodes and "FS" in the program title to indicate Folk Soup episodes. Some playlists mix titles from both genres. About one half of the tracks here are Folk Soup, folk/singer-songwriter, programs,  and the other half are epic soundtrack programs.

All Goddess Rising Radio programs are evergreen. Morning Song and Folk Soup are intended for non-profit use and are suitable for all ages. You will always be able to find favorite playlists easily because they are organized by category and easily explored on Soundcloud.

I'm not a club DJ, I assemble playlists for GAMERS (DnD, LARPs, etc) which require a flow that is different than club playlists, with NO talking, no ads, and last 12 to 48 hours non-stop. ok, I've been hounded for a few years now to do playlists for Country and Rap. When it comes to both of those genre's I'm EXTREMELY picky. I'm old school country, meaning much of what is considered country today ISN'T. In the 70s Country Western radio stations added Honky Tonk and Rock-a-Billy to playlists to stay relevant. And if they didn't they were going out of business fffffaaaaast! IMHO that's Country Crossover, but still Country...barely. In the 90s they expanded again to include Southern Rock and Bluegrass Rock. I remember when those stations to refused to play Eagles records because "they're too much Rock. If they replaced electric guitars with slides, we might consider playing them in future." No shit, the largest chain of Country stations owner said that to Billboard in 1972. Then those same asshats sons added them in 1993 after both their fathers died. 2 years after that, they were admitted to the CM Awards and CM Hall of Fame. HYPOCRITES!!! Do your homework kiddies and be careful who you endorse with your hard earned money.

As for Rap, it's a mixed bag of reasons. 1st is I'm a classically trained musician, (violin and operatic voice, rhythm percutionist.) By definition a song is a melody divided into intro+verse+chorus+bridge+ rinse and repeat until closing. Also music is defined as original content played on instruments by musicians (the voice is technically defined as an instrament.) So by definition Rap is organized noise, not music. Don't yell at me, thats what's in every music theory textbook from the beginning of the printed word. So it took a long while for me to overcome that narrow minded brainwashing. It was MTV that opened my mind and musical horizons to Rap as music. And as such turns out I'm pretty picky about it. If it's disrespectful to women, racist, or glamorizes criminals and criminal behavior, I won't have anything to do with it. But it it has something thought provoking or original to say, or unique in perspective, I'm all ears. To give you an example of what I use as a measuring stick, if it doesn't hold up to the standard of Grandmaster Flash, Gorillaz and Digable Planets. If not, then it will be switched or turned off in first 30 seconds or less.
