Without Answers

...well, I guess THIS Interbay track won't get any play on terrestrial radio.  

This house track has a skip, a bounce, and a chorus that includes the f-word.  It could hardly NOT include the f-word, considering the source of the vocal samples here (taken from the FAR superior original UK version of a popular US tv show--and no, I'm not talking about The Office.)  

Can you mix food and dance music?  Well, it's not like swimming, where we're told not to do it until an hour after eating (though that's since been proven to be meaningless advice.)  I think this latest Interbay track proves that you can--especially if it is lovely, perfectly cooked, linguini...from La Laterna in Letchworth.  

...which sadly isn't there any more.  (A fate shared by most of the establishments featured on that show--though, on my honeymoon, I did take the opportunity to have some Yorkshire Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding and Real Gravy at one of the most memorable establishmments that was on that show...and it was absolutely delicious.  That place, too, is now no longer in business.)  

As far as the music here, it's a pretty straightforward house track--as I mentioned, there's a skip to it--but that doesn't make it UK Garage.  It's not that--though, considering the vocal sample source, wouldn't have been the worst idea, come to think of it.  Maybe a remix in that direction at some point?  

I like the arrangement here--it has good structure, the sounds are chosen well (I think), and there is upwards progression through the song, which...is a good thing if you happen to be dancing to this and the dj isn't too busy in the mix (guilty as charged with that--which makes me wonder what I would do if these Interbay tracks were available when I was dj'ing.  I'd probably find new and interesting ways to scramble them all up--that's what I did with OTHER people's music.)

Black Girl / White Girl continue to turn heads with their new EP on SOUP NYC, Pulse X. 

Turning the heads of Green Velvet, Jamie Jones, and Hector Couto, Black Girl / White Girl is one of the most hotly tipped DJ/production duos to come onto the scene. Their authentic sound successfully blurs the lines of tripped-out house and techno, an irresistible combo custom made for sending dance floors into a frenzy.

Previously releasing on storied imprints like Relief, Roush, and Resonance, here they make their SOUP NYC debut with Pulse X EP: three original cuts backed up with stellar remixes from Supernova and Joe Pompeo. 

Kicking off the EP, ‘The Great Space Chase’ is an exemplary house cut: all twisted, whirling synths and driving percussion with a huge, hooky lead that burrows its way into your brain.  ‘Sugar Ball’ continues in the same tripped out house vein, and comes complete with a remix from Italian duo Supernova who transform it into a jackin’ house bomb. 

Completing the package are two version of ‘1968’: the deep, dark, seething original and Joe Pompeo’s remix which strips things back to basics, giving it a raw, elemental power.

Our Florentine brother, Leonardo Gonnelli has been a tear this year dropping a bunch of standout releases on Deeperfect. And, we have great news; he is back! This time he pairs up with Parisian DJ and producer The Mekanism. This is a guy with serious underground house roots, who is gifted at creating effortlessly cool music that works on many different dancefloors. Releasing on well respected labels such as Seth Troxler’s Play It Say It, Needwant, Moon Harbour and 2020 Vision to name a few. We are sure you are going to love this stellar collaboration between these two industry heavyweights. 
The lead track here is a lush, club focused house jam with a minimal touch. ‘About Us’ gets down to business with a stripped back, yet energetic beat that rides over a warm, pumping sub groove. The track remains underground and loopy, using the slick vocal phrasing and catchy acidic synth riff to drive the energy and build an enveloping, hedonistic vibe. 
On ‘Lies’ the guys delve into rougher territory, with chunky tech beats and tough acid riffs bringing the power for the peak time floors. Building synths create tension as the lush vocals add a warmth and texture above the squelch of the main acid lines. They have taken a more heads down approach on this track and have created a serious dancefloor weapon that will dominate clubs and take no prisoners in the coming months!
