Having released the highly acclaimed Rivers/Tokyo ASMR on Crosstown Rebels last year, Berlin’s Emanuel Satie returns to the label this March with the powerful Personal Liberation EP, showcasing the deep and emotive characteristics that Emanuel brings to his accomplished productions. Taking Afro House to great lengths and parts unknown, Italian duo Bayaka delivers MoBlack Records’ 403rd imprint, laying out the “Goy Boyro” (The Good Work) with their energetic, Afro infused techno remix of Samba Toure’s 2018 masterpiece from the Malian singer/guitarist’s acclaimed Wande album. Rife with charged electronic swells and dynamic synth modulations that sit on lush percussion-driven groove and a looming bluesy disposition, Cristian and Giorgio embellish a prismatic backdrop, perfectly situating Samba Toure’s salient vocals and reverberating its sentimental hooks and poignant acoustics to punch deeper. 
Candidly capturing plights of guitar riffs and ngoni undulations blending with static recoils, warped synths and loops throughout the 7:12 minute journey, Bayaka reminisces the bracing juncture between afro house and techno, human and universe, gravity and motion - and in tandem, Toure’s lament comes alive. On B-side Bayaka does the handiwork, stripping out vocals for places in time too full for words - an exquisite instrumental version drapes the curtain for those intense dancefloor moments or intimate headphone meditations.

The figure five is known to be a biblical symbol of Divine grace, mercy and unconditional love,
and for MoBlack Records 411th catalog, five are the number of interpretations rendered for Tick
Tock & Milkoeh’s homage to Providence, sewn and uplifted by B’utiza’s vocals. Comprising of
unique remixes from some of Africa’s most promising talents, MBR411 is an amalgamation of
organic tribal sounds, Afro soulfulness and innovative electronic maneuvers, inspired by faith
and emboldened by a stirring heart-to-soul dialogue with the Kakaramba, at the hand of South
African vocalist, B’utiza’s transcendent chorale.
Pretoria’s Dee Cee leads the 5-pack, cutting pulsating synth against the grain of a driving
bassline in pursuit of imminent conviction. Rustenberg’s Arol $ Kinzie swerves trajectory
cascading electronica and wading into layers of deep atmospherics and wind-propelled
meditation, but ever remains grounded in B’utiza’s hominal croon. Nuanced basslines brushed
with melodic noir and bristly percussion that resound the awakening of his African roots sets
Silvva’s remix in motion - a 7:15 minute adrenaline rush. Letting vigorous vocals run its ardent
course, Kiing Praiise & Gubu Noir evoke the deluge of emotions in B’utiza’s litany, festooned by
disruptive syncopation, airy pads and brittle groove. Wrapping up the quintuplet, Casaba Tribe
deploys gunning locomotive sonance into searing hi-hat procession, breaching sonic overload
that ruptures into celestial territory.

MBR413 trails the watercourse choreographed by Italy-born and Melbourne-based
DJ/Producer, Leo Guardo and narrated by three eloquent African vocalists. Interfusing
innovative techno elements with deep house soulfulness and tribal groove, Big Fish ruptures
into turbulent waters, basking in the invigorating currents of sonic tides. On A-Side,
Bayamememza starts off with an inquisitive build up, growing more tense as coarse percussion
amass friction. Outpouring grief and empathy into a poignant aria, Tabia’s heartfelt invocation
peals aloft tribal elements, grasping on to the groundedness of house and casting hope in
euphoric melodies. A winsome bassline rolling through subtle inclines and climaxes cradles
Andiswa’s soul-riveting vocals in Sebenza. Compelling lyrics that express the value of
perseverance are the force stretching the 6:58 minute track taut, upending the pendulum of
triumphs and setbacks through ethnic soundscapes and synthetic swells. Wrapping up the
saga, Adile Mbili expels gut-felt exhilaration in an homage to the goddess of fertility and the rain
ritual in her honor. Softening nuanced percussion with tender piano notes, Wenomkhubulwane
gently rides on earthy instrumentals, locking place in locomotive groove. But it doesn’t think
twice, hopping on euphoric harmonies at the right chords up, to escalate into sublime
dimensions.

Tim Engelhardt's 2020 album 'Idiosynkrasia' felt cinematic in form and orchestral in structure, catalysing deep breaths, reflection and a different way of thinking by way of its genre-bending narrative.
