One of my favorite tracks takes center stage once again, this time, for a suffusion of electronic groove, futuristic synergies and subtle Middle Eastern nuances. I’m excited to welcome some of the Israeli
underground’s most promising talents along with their renditions of
Sunlightsquare’s Latin Jazz/Afro Cuban/House infused 2017
masterpiece. Keeping Rene Alvarez’s glorious Cuban vocals, Giovanni Imparato’s symphonic percussion and Claudio Passavanti’s sublime handling at the core, the remixers align with the essence of ‘Oyelo’ but make it entirely, and decorously, their own. The results are remarkable. Up first, Adam Ten and Mita Gami set adrenaline levels high, flashing to a tangible future, where cosmos and earth, synth and percussion, get lost, entwined in the afterdark. Tel Aviv-based duo Made in TLV strikes all hues on the polychrome with a blithe and vigorous remix that incites and complements the original’s prolific instrumentals - a vivacious hip-shaker from start to finish. Wrapping up, Alt Control delivers a feisty peak time number. Powered with energetic drumming, funky synth-laced basslines and climactic grooves, this one can cause some serious frenzy on the dancefloor. This three track EP will surely get you moving, but, Oyelo!, don’t forget to listen.

Red Axes return to Crosstown Rebels with their absorbing new single ‘Relax Shiva’, featuring remixes from  DJ Gregory and Sidartha Siliceo ft. Heiko Dijker.  

An electronic duo at the forefront of house and techno, Tel-Aviv-based pairing Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi, aka Red Axes,  continue to advance and develop their own ever-evolving eccentric and idiosyncratic sound. Informed by new wave and post punk through to electronic genres across the spectrum, their releases on Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound, Jennifer Cardini’s  Correspondant and Life and Death, coupled with recent material on Higher Ground and Shall Not Fade, have welcomed a  plethora of varying soundscapes. This versatility and range is something they explore once again as they return to Damian  Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels - following on from 2015’s ‘Sabor’ - with their latest single, ‘Relax Shiva’. 

“The first time we heard the voice was when we meditated in Mexico. We tried to focus on the meditation but  couldn’t stop thinking, ‘this could be cool with a kick and some acid’. We added some dancefloor flavours back in the  studio but wanted to keep the original vibe. We produced this track really fast; all the ideas were instant” - Red Axes. 

An intensely hypnotic and entrancing effort that slowly wanders and creeps between sounds and spheres covering all hours of  the night, the warping ‘Relax Shiva’ utilises resounding and deep organic percussion alongside a spiralling deeply-rooted acid  line at its core to guide the trance-inducing vocal calls across a near-eight minute trip. Providing the first remix on the package,  Parisian house legend DJ Gregory, aka Point G, harnesses the vocals while introducing crisp, rolling drums and winding  melodies, while Sidartha Siliceo’s take featuring Heiko Dijker strips things back as the renowned Sitar and Tabla players  provide a riveting and magnetic journey capturing the imagination and transporting listeners to the heart of India.

This project showcases the unique blend of Genish and Shiran's musical styles, fusing electronic beats with Middle Eastern melodies and captivating Yemeni original lyrics and vocals spread on infectious rhythms. Adding to the EP's allure is the exceptional talent of keyboard virtuoso, Ron Bakal. In the titled track “Layla” Genish builds and drops layers on top of layers until Ron’s Korg enchanting melody crawls over window-rattling bass and Shiran’s rapid-fire tenor explodes the groove’s center. The trio’s ability to shift styles is as radical as it is organic, as they drop into the nearly traditional yet futuristic mix of Yemeni language and disco touch in ‘Galbi’.

With its melodic prowess and poetic depth, this EP pushes boundaries, defies genres, and certainly embodies Genish and Shiran's immense talent and artistic vibrancy!

It was in 2014 when a mutual friend introduced me to Victor Ruiz while he was staying here in Berlin. I invited Victor to my studio where we had a fantastic session, playing our music to each other, listening to stuff we like and simply talkin and connecting. Since then, we became close friends as well as starting to work together. Victor has released two outstanding EPs on Electric Ballroom by now. This summer we met again and recorded three tracks. The result is our first joint EP, of which I am very proud. (Thomas Schumacher, November 2015)
