After two years of blood, sweat and tears in the studio, Sydney Blu was proud to present her first artist album Relentless on Black Hole Recordings this past July 27th. Complete with 12 originals and one remix, Relentless combines the sounds of tech house, techno and house in a fully loaded album that showcases Sydney Blu’s true underground musical style. Having already soared to #45 on the iTunes Dance charts and #18 on the Beatport Tech House charts, it's clear that Relentless is quickly making its mark on dance floors worldwide.

It was during our travels through Thailand when we met Jamie Farang, a Canadian now living on the magical island of Koh Phangan. Born in Montreal and raised in Alberta, Farang has been crafting the art of DJing for nearly a decade. 

Having held various residencies throughout Calgary including OMFG! Entertainment, & playing many of the city’s most recognized venues such as Flames Central, TEN Nightclub, Habitat, The Whiskey, The Bank, Mansion, Republik, WEST Rooftop Day Club, plus many more, Farang became a well-known name among Calgary’s underground music scene.

Now living in Koh Phangan, a place where Farang argues “puts Ibiza to shame”, he reflects that his style has changed significantly. He’s enjoyed playing many of the island’s hot spots including Ritual, FUBAR, Art Club & Café, Sunset Peal, Ku Club and Jungle Experience.

Jeff Button - Godzila Disco Podcast #015

It was at the intimate, floating bar, Loi Lay in Koh Phangan where we first discovered Acrobat. As the closing act, Acrobat carried us through until sunrise, delivering a high energy set that fused dark, hypnotic techno with deliciously, groovy house rhythms. 

The setting was something out of a movie. Constructed by bamboo rods and surrounded by the crystal blue ocean, Loi Lay offers party-goers a one of a kind atmosphere to experience proper underground music. Acrobat's entrancing set added to the levels of intoxication, as we happily danced about. 

As one of the most memorable nights of our travels through Thailand, we were truly honoured when Acrobat agreed to chat with us so that we could learn more about Koh Phangan’s techno maestro. And even better -- it’s with great pleasure that we feature Acrobat on this week’s episode of the Godzilla Disco Podcast too…

Aleksandar Kojic has become a sought-after name among Toronto’s electronic music community. At just 25 years old, Kojic’s refined taste and awareness of music is striking. With nearly a decade of experience behind him, Kojic found himself first drawn towards the mixing board after attending his first all-ages event where he became mesmerized by the DJ’s ability to seamlessly transition from one track to another. Having mastered the craft, both digitally and on the turntables, Kojic has carved out a distinct sound, brimming with smooth, hypnotic rhythms and a melancholy dreaminess that’s beyond his years.  

More recently, Kojic has expanded his energy towards production. Earlier this month Kojic partnered up with fellow Torontonian and DJ partner Alberto Jossue to release their Macrocosm EP, out on the Montreal-based L’enfant Terrible Records. Since its release on August 8th, Macrocosm has quickly climbed its way into the Beatport Top 100 Deep House charts. The track begins with a subtle, minimal whirling effect that immediately piques our ears. As soon as the kick comes in, we're already deeply absorbed in this intriguing track. "Paragon Thief" encompasses Justin's signature deep, groovy sound, while also showing off a great sense of musical maturity. The winding rhythm will lock you into a hypnotic state and the steady beat will keep you happily two-stepping and shaking your hips about the dance floor. Several small breakdowns make their way through, as the track's layers are peeled back and then built up again. "Paragon Thief" give listeners more than 6.5 minutes of dark, sexy hypnotic vibrations. When looking at Clouzer today, it’s hard to picture this bright, blue eyed soul covered in piercings while banging a head full of dreadlocks to heavy metal. But, you better believe it because that’s exactly where Clouzer’s journey with music began.

Born and raised in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Clouzer was once a “heavy metal dude, playing guitar in an alternative band.” During this time, he took up work as a CD pusher for a small music and video store. Taking on the role as the ‘Metal’ specialist, Clouzer was soon introduced to the sounds of electronic music through a co-worker. He credits this individual’s impeccable taste and his very first rave as the catalysts that would push him towards a career in electronic music.

In 2007 Clouzer recorded his first mix. Over the next 10 years, he embarked on a journey of self-discovery, developing his skills both as a DJ and Producer. Today, he may heard playing across Toronto at CODA, One Loft and the Secret Society Sessions.

When creating this mix today, Clouzer notes “I didn’t feel any borders when I was working on it, the borders you usually feel when you work on a podcast series. I realized that it’s a great occasion to mix something special for me. I used to play this kind of Electric genre (nu disco, electro) quite often back home, especially at home private parties, but I have never made any mix like that for the last 10 years of my journey. It wasn't easy, as tracks in this particular genre are specific and you don`t have much room for transition, as the BPM variety is so random. I started my mix in 108 and finished it by 127. It took lots of effort to finally make a story that satisfies me.” We hope you enjoy the story too!

It's been 1 year since we last had the pleasure of hosting Toronto's brilliant Alberto Jossue. A skilled musician and creative soul, whose music sees no boundaries, Alberto's mixtape series can be viewed as a reflection of the times. Today, we’re proud to present ‘Microgroove’. Microgroove is a vinyl only music series curated by Godzilla Disco, dedicated to keeping the spirit of the medium alive.

For our first edition, we welcome Atlanta-based DJ-Producer Komron. Komron’s sophisticated musicality translates into deep, emotive sets that carry a timeless sound. Well-versed in numerous genres, spanning from deep house, techno, down tempo, and everything in between, Komron’s most recent love affair falls upon vinyl. The world of wax has “opened my eyes to even more quality music that I never knew existed”, he tells us. Microgroove Sessions 001 - Presented by Komron

Every now and then, life calls us to slow down. To halt the plans, thoughts and responsibilities clouding our minds. To take a moment of silence. To close your eyes. To breath deeply. As summer slows its pace, the cosmic energy invites us into a deeper state of reflection. Thus, we were thrilled when Toronto artist Sam Zenn approached us with the idea to create an exclusive ambient set.

“Life can be very challenging at times,” he explained. “It’s great to have a chill and uplifting sound to lay back, relax and/or meditate with, especially since nothing connects stronger with our true inner beings other than music… food for the soul!”

Sam Zenn needs little introduction. As a DJ, he is a true chameleon, adapting to any dance floor put before him. His rich, hypnotic sound and technical dexterity behind the decks makes him stand out amongst fellow peers. The only attributes that shine brighter than his skill set are his warm, genuine demeanour and humble stance. It’s no wonder that many of the country’s top venues have booked Sam, including Toronto’s Footwork and CODA, Vancouver’s Gorg-o-mish and Celebrities, and festivals like Bestival Toronto and Vujaday in Barbados. After taking a short pause, Pakistani artist Abeer Sheikh is back in the lime light with a sizzling electronica EP titled Rising Son, under his Biiro alias. Out December 11 on Toronto-based label Free the People, "Rising Son" holds dual meaning, paying tribute to his favourite Massive Attack track, while giving a nod to his new title of 'dad'.

Today, we are thrilled to premiere “Sun” off of his forthcoming EP. Reminiscent of the new wave era, Sun’s nostalgic synth line pans across your ears, immediately luring you into its dream-like world. The chugging bassline will keep you locked into its groove, while crisp, high hats sizzle in the air and Biiro’s spacey vocals send you further into his star lit galaxy.
