We must never let ourselves become desensitized to this. To any part of this.
We must never cease appreciating the sun on our skin and the wind in our hair, and we must never cease being shocked by the fact that there are people whose entire job is to push for more war.
We must never lose our sense of wonder at the birds in the air, and we must never lose our sense of horror at the fact that there are people who profit from war and militarism and lobby for more of it at every opportunity.

"War is good for business."

So reads a quote from an arms industry executive in a recent Reuters article titled "At London arms fair, global war fears are good for business" about Europe's biggest arms show, the biennial Defence and Security Equipment International. You will probably be unsurprised to learn that Reuters does not name the war profiteer whose quote inspired their headline.

War Profiteers Are A Sign Of A Profoundly Sick Society

Western officials and media pundits are now directly acknowledging that Ukraine's much-touted "spring counteroffensive" has been a catastrophic failure, but rather than seeing this as a reason to reconsider the mainstream political consensus on this war, they are instead telling everyone that the counteroffensive's failure means we must commit to the status quo of bloodshed and nuclear brinkmanship for years to come.

Israeli-American activist Miko Peled explains what Israel is doing and why they're doing it. Then I'm joined by Mohammed Hisam, a Palestinian-American community organizer and attorney based out of Houston, TX. 

Miko Peled is an author, writer, speaker, and human rights activist living in the United States. He is the author of "The General's Son: Journey of an Israeli in Palestine" and "Injustice: The Story of the Holy Land Foundation Five." His father was a high ranking Israeli general, his maternal grandfather was a signatory to Israeli independence, his niece was tragically killed in a suicide bombing and he's a staunch advocate for a one state solution. 

He is considered by many to be one of the clearest voices calling for justice in Palestine, support of the Palestinian call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) and the creation of a single democracy with equal rights in all of historic Palestine. Educated in Jerusalem, Japan and the United States, Peled is also an accomplished professional martial artist. For 23 years, Peled ran a martial arts school that was dedicated to teaching leadership skills and non-violent conflict resolution through martial arts. 

Miko is also a contributor to several online publications (Mint Press, The Electronic Intifada, Democracy Now, Mondoweiss), Mikopeled.com, and produces The Miko Peled Podcast, all of which he dedicated to advocating for the creation of one democratic state with equal rights for Israelis and Palestinians. He travels regularly to Palestine where he speaks and works with the popular resistance, the BDS movement, and other justice groups. As a result, he has been arrested several times by the Israeli authorities for his activism.

Mohammed Hisam is an organizer with the Palestinian Youth Movement and currently serves as Director of Advocacy and Education for the Palestinian American Cultural Center - Houston. As an community organizer, Hisam engages in advocacy on behalf of the Palestinian community and for the Palestinian cause through organizing demonstrations and educational events and overseeing two critical grants that support Palestinian students and student organizing on Texas campuses.
