Witchtape #02 | Dreamy Mix by Hekske

Es war einmal ein weiser alter Zauberer. Er hatte einen langen Bart, der ihm bis zu den Knien reichte. Aufgrund eines missglückten Zaubers war dieser jedoch nicht schneeweiß, sondern Regenbogen-bunt. Deshalb hatte es der alte Greis schwer in der magischen Gemeinschaft. Beim alljährlichen Treffen im Kanutenwald war ihm dieses schwerwiegende Missgeschick passiert. Der alte Zauberer wollte bei der Zusammenkunft einen mystischen Trank brauen, der schon über Jahrtausende nicht mehr hergestellt wurde. Dieser Trank sollte die Kraft haben, zerstörte Landstriche binnen weniger Sekunden in den prächtigsten Farben erblühen zu lassen. Doch bei der Herstellung stolperte er und schüttete sich das Gebräu in seinen Bart. Dieser wurde sofort kunterbunt und kein Gegenzauber dieser Welt konnte diese Wirkung umkehren. Fort an lachten sich die anderen alten wiesen Männer schlapp, wenn sie den bunten Bart sahen.
Über die Jahre wurde der Zauberer mit dem kuriosen Bart immer schwermütiger. Ein weißer Bart ist für Männer seiner Zunft eminent wichtig und ein unerlässliches Merkmal. Seine Laune wurde immer schlechter und in seinen Gedanken zog Bitterkeit ein. Genauso wie das Herz erkrankte auch der Wald in dem er wohnte. Die Tiere des Waldes machten sich große Sorgen und trafen sich eines Tages zu einer Konferenz. Zuerst waren sie ratlos, bis das verrückte Wildschwein auf die Idee kam ein großes Fest für den Zauberer zu veranstalten. Die anderen Tiere stimmten zu und begannen sofort mit der Vorbereitung für die große Veranstaltung.
Der Zauberer saß wie immer auf einen alten abgestorbenen Baumstumpf und blies Trübsal, als er plötzlich in der Ferne eine Trompete hörte. Sie spielte eine fröhliche Melodie, die ihm irgendwie bekannt vorkam. Er stand auf und wollte die Quelle des Geräusches ergründen. Nach einiger Zeit fand er die Tiere des Waldes auf einer Lichtung. Dort angekommen bildeten die Tiere einen Kreis um den verwirrten Mann sangen für ihn. Tränen liefen alsbald über seine Augen, als er erkannte, dass die Tiere das alles für ihn machten. Der Mann mit den bunten Bart ließ sich auf den bunten Reigen ein und lachte, tanzte, scherzte und feierte mit den Tieren „all night long“! Pure Freude erfüllte das Herz des Zauberers und wie ein Wunder verwandelte sich der Wald in wenigen Sekunden in ein blühendes Paradies... und so hatte der Zauber letztendlich doch noch gewirkt und wer weiß, vielleicht war das auch das Geheimnis des Zaubers.

There once was a wise old wizard. He had a long beard which looked like an average wizard’s beard, apart from the fact that it was rainbow-colored instead of snow-white.  This unusual color was due to a mishap involving an ill-executed magic spell, which happened at the annual meeting in the canoe forest.  That day he attempted to brew an old magic potion to regenerate destitute forest areas within seconds and make flowers bloom in the most magnificent colors.  But unfortunately he fumbled and the brew poured over his beard, which became very colorful in a matter of seconds.
And to add insult to injury, there was no known antidote which could reverse this effect.  From then on, the poor wizard was the laughing stock of the magic community.

Over the years, the wizard became more and more melancholic.  A white beard is eminently important to men of his stature.   Like his heart, the forest in which he lived also fell ill.  The animals decided to do something to help the wizard and decided to organize a big surprise party.
When the wizard found out, tears rolled over his cheeks when he realized that the animals were doing it all for him.  The man felt revitalized and laughed, danced and celebrated with the animals "all night long"!  Pure joy filled his heart, and miraculously the forest transformed into a thriving paradise in just a few seconds.  And so the spell had finally worked…

That morning, the little witch got surprised by a heavy rain shower while performing her daily inspection round of her forest.  It was a pretty cool October morning and soon the girl was soaked to the bone, despite taking shelter under a big maple tree.  Spring and summer had been hot and extremely dry, but this autumn brought the first big rains in 3 years.  After the rain abated, the young witch found out that little mushrooms had popped up everywhere, with uncountable different species all over the forest.  A dry and warm summer followed by a cool and wet autumn created the perfect conditions for this mushroom bonanza.  The barefoot girl tiptoed cautiously through the woods, making sure not to trample any of these fragile little toadstools.  A few moments later, her heart filled with joy as she spotted a near-perfect witch’s rings of scurfy twiglets, which was the very first time of her young life that she saw a full circle of mushrooms.
Starting from the edge of ring, there was a winding line of white mushrooms and the little witch decided to follow this treasure trail, which seemed to lead in the direction of the tiny oak tree (which was destined to live for 1000 years and become the future mother tree of the forest, and which was being protected by a tree nymph who had arrived just a few days earlier after an epic 2-year journey from South-East Asia).  The winding trail of mushrooms stopped just a few meters short of the little pond which a group of friendly badgers had dug for the nymph the day before, and which just got filled up with water from the rain shower.  The little witch didn’t need to think twice and slipped out of her wet clothes and waded into the water.  Soon afterwards, the little nymph also arrived at the scene and – with a mysterious yet irresistible South-East Asian smile – threw away her dress without hesitation and joined the witch in the water. Despite knowing each other only for a few days and never exchanging a single word, witch and nymph had become best friends instantly.  After a long welcome hug, they noticed that their presence had a magic effect on their environment.  When the little witch opened her eyes, she saw that the banks of the pond (which were only dirt and mud a few moments earlier) were all of a sudden covered with lush green grass and moss, while fresh leaves of water lilies were now floating at several places on the water surface.  Both witch and nymph just couldn’t believe their eyes and without thinking - after getting deeper into the water - they engaged in yet another tender hug.  This embrace was way more intense and the little witch felt how her own North-Western European energy got mixed with a strong undercurrent of the distinctly contrasting South-East Asian energy of the youthful nymph.  The fusion of energies was so powerful and overwhelming that both girls completely lost their sense of space and time.
After a while, they opened their eyes at exactly the same moment and were immediately spellbound when they saw they were now being surrounded by an abundance of brilliantly white lily flowers sticking out of the water surface.  Only at that moment the little witch noticed the family of badgers lining up at the edge of the water and looking in awe at the magic transformation of the pond which they had dug with boundless love and energy just 24 hours earlier…

Witchtape #80 | Guest Witch : juSt b

On a glorious and unusually warm November afternoon, the little witch went for a gathering tour around the woods, accompanied by half a dozen of squirrels.  Global warming is also affecting the witch’s forest, although the effects are being tempered by the dense, lush vegetation.  Anyway, a mild and sunny November day is always pleasant, so it was the ideal day to collect some spices, nuts and mushrooms.  The squirrels knew what was going to happen so they happily interrupted their daily autumn routine of burying nuts all over the place.  The little witch cautiously picked some stinging nettles, dandelions and dwarf mallows from the side of the little stream.  After that she went to the section of the forest with the most majestic trees and the squirrels collected acorns and beech nuts for her (although all squirrels cheekily buried a few nuts for themselves in the process).  Finally, she treaded into the darkest and dampest section of the woods to gather a selection of mushrooms, mainly scurfy twiglets, chanterelles and suede boletes.
After collecting all these plants and fungi, she returned to the central glade of the forest at an unhurried pace, accompanied by a scurry of ebullient squirrels.  After depositing their trove, the squirrels spontaneously returned to the woods as they knew what would come next.  A little later, they returned with some firewood which they deposited at the feet of the little witch.  Then the forest dwellers waited until dusk, when the girl, with a gracious hand movement, created a little floating spark which lazily floated in the air until it landed inside the pile of firewood, setting it ablaze.  All the forest animals snuggled cozily together while enjoying the crackling campfire.  After a while, the fire faded out, leaving behind a small pile of glowing coals in the dark night.  During the afternoon the little witch had dried and pulverized all the plants, nuts and mushrooms she had picked in the woods, and now she gently threw the powder over the glowing pile of wood.  All the animals held their breath as they knew what was going to come.  Soon a column of thick smoke rose up from the fire.  This was the moment they had all been waiting for, the annual message from mother earth, projected on this smokescreen like every year on the 11th day of November.  Would they finally get the answers about the mystifying behavior of all humans, who in March abruptly stopped moving around with their cars and planes, giving a much-needed breather for planet earth to regenerate and purify itself.  Since then, all forest dwellers couldn’t stop wondering why the humans suddenly changed their way of living.  At first, they thought the muggles had become all of a sudden sane, but that theory was shattered after the people gradually reverted to their old behavioral patterns during the summer.  A popular theory among the forest dwellers was that the money printing press of the humans had broken down, effectively grounding the economy to a halt.  Another theory was that the oil well of the humans had run dry, leaving them without fuel to propel their vehicles and planes.  Meanwhile, slowly an image formed on the smokescreen, while all the animals held their breath …

Witchtape #83 | Guest Witch : Borella

Göksel was born and raised in Istanbul (Cihangir, Kadıköy, Moda) and currently lives in Kreuzberg, Berlin. At the age of 5, he became interested in synthesizers; by 16, he was playing the guitar. He was into alternative rock sounds, formed a band, and played as a guitarist at events. As a backpacker, he has traveled to 12 countries so far. He fell into the underground rave culture but never set limits in his mind about genres. This is why you can find a mix of acoustic and electronic elements in his sound. In recent years, he has been playing as a DJ in bars, clubs, art exhibitions, and special events.
