MANOIR MOLLE - LUFF 2024 - JOUR 3 - SALLE DES FÊTES

Producer, activist, sound artist, and Egyptian musician, Ahmed El Ghazoly, aka ZULI, has been an absolutely central and emblematic figure in Cairo’s electronic/hip-hop/experimental scene for over a decade. At LUFF, he will perform Digla Dive - Live, an intense and relentless album designed for live performance, released in 2023 on the Egyptian label Nashazphone. Constantly challenging the norms of club music with his over-deconstructed and overpowering sounds reminiscent of breakcore, noise, and hip-hop, ZULI thrusts us into a cerebral trip where disorientation is complete.

Muon S is a physical and noise-driven dialogue between bodies and instruments, blurring the lines between what is seen and heard. Anna Gaïotti wears tap dance shoes which are amplified by dynamic microphones, with the sounds produced by her dancing being processed through Jean Bender’s modular synthesizer. Gaïotti taps, strikes, scrapes, rubs, and slides; Bender highlights textures, rhythms, and concrete sounds until they explode. This work, both complementary and frictional, seeks to question the presence and physicality of the body in sound, the gesture that transforms and mutates with and within the sound of the instrument.

Canzonieris are scrambling around in an elegant dissidence. While blending electronic and electroacoustic experimentation with elements of neofolk, aleatory, and minimalism, Emiliano and Cosimo infuse life into poets, storytellers, jesters, and goblins. Canzonieri performances feature live electronic manipulation of acoustic instruments, dressed in their homemade costumes. It’s all finally coming true, in the end.

CANZONIERI - LUFF 2024 - JOUR 4 - L'OFF

Started in the early 2000s, Billy Bao consists of two false starts. Silence. Embarrassment. Made up of Mattin and Alberto Lopez, the band don’t write songs, never rehearse nor even really play. The plugged-in instruments are sometimes simply left to the audience. So go ahead, take em! You play instead! They amplify alienation through participation. They play on social dissonance, on the gap between individual narcissism and social capacity. Howling. Extreme noise. They shift the focus on sound towards its social aspects.

BILLY BAO - LUFF 2024 - JOUR 4 - SALLE DES FÊTES

Right under a spotlight, someone is playing a continuous drum roll in the middle of the audience. In the darkness, another amplifies the repeated beat with the help of a tape recorder. The drummer and the audience are on the same level of perception, a sound stream that is constantly changing under the effect of a long, tenuous, hypnotic feedback. Both the ears of the drummer and the audience are transformed, improvising and being reshaped as hidden sounds, rhythmic interference, secondary harmonies and other sonic ‘surprises’ emerge.

RODOLPHE LOUBATIÈRE ET DENIS ROLLET - LUFF 2024 - JOUR 4 - SALLE DES FÊTES

NMT is Rébecca Bonté’s new solo project, alongside her sister she is part of Acte Bonté and organises events in Brussels under the name Rattus. A mid-life crisis aesthetic, incorporating attempts at screaming, layers of noise, lo-fi electro explorations, and variations of rapid kicks. Disjointed pop songs driven mainly by fear and embarrassment, which are just as capable of getting the legs moving to exquisite beats as they are at knocking them down seconds later under intense sinusoidal waves. NMT’s debut album will be released shortly on the Tanzprocesz label.

NMT (REBECCA BONTÉ) - LUFF 2024 - JOUR 4 - SALLE DES FÊTES

Formed by two ex-members of post-punk act DUDS (Giulio Erasmus and Nirvana Heire) and multidisciplinary artist Leo Hermitt, Handle is a Manchester based trio whose music - minimal, incisive and frenetic - lies somewhere between lo-fi samba, no-wave, post-punk and poetry. Between manic synths, dissonant groovy bass lines, polyrhythmic juggling and politically charged lyrics, the band is finally back on stage, more than four years after the release of their already cult debut album In Threes, on the Upset The Rhythm label.
