in a dream I saw us scattered to the wind
in Belgium or in some northern part of Sweden
we floated without purpose or place
hoping to find meaning in the race to escape

some moments I can't take what I am seeing
moving is the simplest way to shake the feeling
and in those times I feel my mind unreeling 
I am not everything I was believing

everything is incohesive
everything must be divisive
until I learn to shut up and live
take the time for what it is

something's happening right now
not perfect pain or perfect bliss
not gone astray or yet amiss
just all we've got and all we are allowed

in memory I visit what I shouldn't
pieces of the past I assign meaning
but maybe this is how we tell our stories
in the present there's no time to worry

if anything I am backwards leaning
can never process things as they're unfolding
but as I reminisce I miss the story
bought and sold on living for the memory 

happening in life, the real thing
and to myself I'm back to scolding
growing gray hairs to mark the passing
making this about my lacking
selfish to a fault and counting 
gathered up and loved a lot
writing this to tell me off
