Reconstruir das Ruínas (rebuild from the ruins) is a compilation created by 25 musicians from the Lisbon underground electronic scene, including Xinobi, Vil, Dan Ghenacia, Kaspar, and many more. They are kindly donating their tracks with all proceeds being donated to União Audiovisual (uniaoaudiovisual.pt) - an association working on providing support and essential goods to artists and audiovisual professionals affected by the pandemic. 

Music has the power of bringing people together and here, it plays a major role in rebuilding our future from the rubble left behind by this pandemic. We were blessed to be free to party before and we shouldn’t let the sense of nostalgia translate into despair; we should use it as a positive driving force pushing us to look forward: nothing will be the same but, if we work together, it can only get better. 

The release is proudly produced by the Ruínas collective.

Exclusive: Vilaine Dufrene - Step Bump

With the original demo version of Step Bump! put up by Les Disques du Lobby last year, the track is now part of Parisian label Community Center's Bangers Service accompanied by four more pieces that are musically rooted in various periods of time and musical eras. Vilaine Dufrene's take, Step Bump, seems to be, at first, a typical workout track from the 80s with commands of how to move but at second listen offers Housey pads that unusually well fit the workout plan being provided throughout the track. With a rather positive tone, motivating one to move in the beat and heat of the moment, Step Bump is the track to gain back your pre-pandemic shape unconditionally at a physical and psychological level. Now recite the alphabet from Z to A backwards.

EXCLUSIVE: Vilaine Dufrene - Step Bump! [Community Center]

Alex Wastnidge, better known as From Beyond, is a music producer and DJ based in East London. Since 2018, he has been prolific in building an array of widely praised solo releases, starting with an EP via the legendary Paper Recordings, and more recently seeing his output grace the back catalogues of Tronik Youth’s Nein Records and James Rod’s Golden Soul.

Across both his original productions and remix work, Wastnidge has crafted a distinctive blend of acidic, spaced-out nu-disco. His style primarily takes cues from 1980s electro-funk, Italo disco and synth-pop, but at the same time embodies a forward-thinking approach, borrowing and building upon the innovations of intervening eras in the process.

His expansive knowledge of electronic music is also put to good use via his Data Transmission Radio show, which has been streaming on a monthly basis since early 2018.
Despite still being a relatively new name, Wastnidge’s releases as From Beyond have taken little time to win plaudits from some of dance music’s most respected figures, among them Justin Robertson, Jerry Bouthier and Sean Johnston, as well as publications such as Mixmag and Le Visiteur.
