With this mix Heidi asks to please learn more about and consider donating to: I would love to highlight a new initiative called Synth Library NYC that I am helping to launch, together with the talented Brooklyn sound artist Cy X.  Synth Library NYC will open in May 2021 as a community education and music hub providing access to synthesizers, modular gear, recording equipment and other electronic musical instruments for people of all experience levels with priority access to BIPOC and those of marginalized genders.  Individuals will be able to ‘check-out’ an instrument and take it home for 3 weeks, just like one would borrow a book from the public library. Synth Library NYC also plans to have virtual and in-person workshops, synth meet ups, collaborative performances and other engagement activities to foster connection and help encourage those with less experience. We are grateful to be consulting with the founders of Fem Synth Lab in Los Angeles who have paved the way in this concept of community building, and Powrplnt, a network of Brooklyn artists dedicated to providing equal access to digital arts education, where we are currently residents. How does the presence or absence of light regulates our internal biological processes and moods?
Circadian rhythms are endogenous time-keeping systems that synchronize most organisms, from unicellular cyanobacterium to humans, to the external solar cycle. Since light information is the most potent synchronizing factor, biological clocks coordinate the individual’s internal physiological and biochemical processes according to light and dark cycles.

The show is divided into two sets of 1 hour and the musical selection of each DJ reflects those moments: day or night. In this episode Lychee (US) is in charge of the first part of the program, and Diamin (CL) of the second.

A downtempo session filled with cosmic chug from Customer Service. 

Based in London, Customer Service is the co-founder of the brilliant record label Control Freak Recordings alongside Finnaman, launching in 2019 as a platform focused on leftfield techno and UK bass. Over the last two years, the pair have released records from the likes of Breaka, Guava, LUXE, Syz, Keplrr, Ayesha, Kincaid and more. Customer Service has also put out a couple of tracks on the label. 

Alongside the label, Customer Service and Finnaman run the London party series Cabin Fever, hosting raves at some of the city’s best underground venues. Bringing in artists from all around the world, they celebrated their third birthday this Summer with a knockout event featuring Anthony Naples, DJ Python and Alexis at Venue MOT. Coming up in the last few months of the year, Cabin Fever will be celebrating the latest Control Freak release from Will Hofbauer and Sangre Voss at The Waiting Room next Friday and in November they team up with Dutch imprint Nous’klaer Audio for a weighty event at The Cause with Bambounou, upsammy, Oceanic and more. To round off 2021, Cabin Fever heads to Corsica Studios with Martyn, Forest Drive West, Al Wootton and LUXE. 

Speaking about the idea behind the mix Will says, “Last time I saw Chanel I was in full party mode, so I wanted to put something a bit weirder together. I can’t really plan mixes but this one ended up being a sub 100 mix of crunchy and cosmic chug.”

Last month, on 21 September, the music industry was rocked by the unexpected passing of Richard H. Kirk.

The late musician, who broke ground as part of influential post-punk group Cabaret Voltaire and ignited dancefloors through electronic-rooted solo excursions and other releases under a plethora of aliases including (but in no way limited to) Sweet Exorcist, Sandoz and Electronic Eye, was considered by many to be a true musical trailblazer. A singular talent – one that is sorely missed.

Daisychain 213 - Silvia Ponce

Belia Winnewisser never set out to be a DJ, it just happened. Music had always been at the core of the Zurich-based producer and musician's life but it wasn't until she moved in with a friend who had a DJ set up that she decided to add this to her musical ventures. 

As an artist Belia's background in Sound Arts and Contemporary Arts led her into the field of sound design, an interest that now makes up her day-to-day work at a radio station in her home city.

Outside of work she's a composer, singer and keyboardist who, as well as writing music solo for labels like Präsens Editionen, Spa Recordings and most recently Die Orakel, is part of a handful of collaborative projects including α=f/m, a pop duo with Rolf Laureijs, and as part of indie band Silver Fir.

On this week's mix she showcases her love of club-focused sounds, with a nod to her sound design training, that begins with the blissful sounds of Sign Libra before working its way through slick house, acid and breaks from the likes of Anz, Otik and Bliss Inc.
