We continue our journey of uncovering gems. Next up on the mag is Lyo aka Lyonel De Vos. Mostly associated with the NUT Records shop, which he set up with good friend Tunello, he’s a record dealer appreciated by DJs big and small, near and far. Belgian blooded, global kid, based in Barcelona. Oh and did we mention his record collection?!

Taking influences from his past - in Belgium with "electronic disco, proto house and all sorts of weird hybrid stuff", the minimal scene in Barcelona and his continued digging journey up to this point - Lyo delivers his personal take. 

"I've always been more into moods rather than styles", and for this podcast, he's got us in a mood alright: Diving into the unknown with menacing retro synths, funky rhythms, groovy basslines, emotional melodies and tasteful vocals, he warms up the stratosphere with the deep and industrial, leading towards a dancefloor in ecstasy, closing in style with a dub mix of Belgian synth-pop disco track "Love Sweet Love".

In 2020 we saw the emergence of one of the freshest record labels to emerge out of NYC in an age. We love this label here at 1BTN HQ and are over the moon to hand over the 1BTN airwaves to Our Starry Universe for a 12hr takeover.

DJ’ing since his formative years in the frozen Northern reaches of Yorkshire Johnston has been many things; Acid-House Veteran, Techno Survivor, Alpinist, Hardway Bros and Freelance Disco Consultant but it is his recent production work and now legendary club night that he has best become known for the world over. From the early 90’s institution that was Sabresonic to Disco Bloodbath, Sean has played at many of London’s landmark clubs. He also plays regularly at Berlin’s premier underground venue Salon Zur Wilden Renate, festivals in French castles and the Dalmatian coast, as well as across the whole breadth of this fine aural landscape we live in.

For the last show of the 2023 top gizza, koen.fm, joins me in the studio. He shares a Soft Spot focusing on the music he plays in the classroom during his day job as a school teacher. There's some funny and heart warming stories in there, including highly rated song suggestions from an 8yr old and Koen sharing music that actually makes plants grow (true story!!).

The whole two hours is a subtle ride through ambient, triphop, ethereal instrumentals and all round downtempo goodness to sooth the soul.

Originally from Eora, Pistaccio has carved a niche within the pulsating heart of the Naarm music community, showcasing his talents through his monthly contributions on Skylab Radio and his behind-the-scenes involvement with Colour Club and Lost Properties. A skilled DJ and producer, Oren's work blends spaciousness and energy, evoking a sense of familiarity while bringing something fresh.

For the next hour, Pistaccio charges like a wounded bull, showcasing his 90’s & 00s influences from artists like Jay Tripwire, Rob Paine and the Wiggle crew. Grab yourself a glass as the Eora native delivers a beautifully mixed cocktail of dubby, bouncing and playful tracks to get you going; shaken, not stirred. This mix is dedicated to Mach 1; a little doof on the fringes of Melbourne that unfortunately got cancelled due to the fiery wrath of a bushfire. Olivier Brunet (Mimen) is a visual designer, DJ and record collector based in Paris. He has been collecting wax and dusty CDs for 10 years with a focus on electronic, jazz & ambient. He’s currently taking a professional break to work solely on his first EP and live act. This mix is a blend of his latest influences: dreamy layers, trippy textures and dancefloor-oriented oddities.
