Goldroom - Otoño Mix 2014

We're closer to sunset than sunrise, the last rays of summer's sun casting the long shadows once again. We can sprint to save the day, but those shadows only get taller. Autumn is on the way, and the long afternoons that felt like dreams soon will be just that. But there's something beautiful about this time of year, when the sun is till here to bake you, but the heat feels a bit more urgent than lazy. Something is around the corner. Something big is coming. 

I spend entirely too much time on these mixes, and I'm sorry its been so long since my last one. I was a bit paralyzed by something that kept me from actually sitting down to make one. I don't know if maybe my tastes are changing, or if I was feeling some weight, but I really put this one off. I'm so glad that I felt the need again last week. An interesting side note is that I didn't use a single remix in this mix (except for one of my own). I'm not sure why or how that happened, but I know its pretty odd. Maybe my tastes are really changing? 

I'm very proud of this mix, and it completely represents how I'm feeling right now. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.

Goldroom - Verano Mix 2015

My number one goal when making a mix is always to tell a story, and to make the hour feel like a journey that we can take together. I couldn't care less about exclusives, VIP remixes, or proving that I have more unreleased music than the next guy. I just want to jump into your head and soundtrack a day of your life, and that all comes down to telling a story through the songs that transcend the summer of 2016.  

To me, the story of this Verano mix is all about change... unavoidable oncoming change. Just like Autumn's inevitable arrival at the end of Summer, I can't help but feel like something is on the horizon ready to change everything. I'm not sure what the next few months will hold but it feels like things will get blurry and never be the same again. Change can be terrifying and exciting all at once. The summer can be the best and the worst in that way. I tried to capture that with this mix.

Things are fine and then they aren't but there's always hope at the end.

Goldroom - Verano Mix 2016

Wrestling with the passage of time is a challenge that always seems to rear it's head just as the days are reaching their shortest. The air is cool, the trees have lost their leaves, music is bouncing around the world, and here we are again together, just like last year. The world has changed around us, but aren't we right where we were? This time of year is always an impenetrable fog. Judging your place in the world, especially in THIS world, or at least the strange dystopian one we've created for ourselves, is near impossible. What do we even have to cling to, as fall turns to winter and the nights are longer and colder? Underneath everything else at least we can share some music - across continents and oceans and time zones. Music for lonely mornings and drunken nights. Music for closing your eyes to. Music to take us somewhere else. Where do we go from here?

This is for anyone who's out there paying any attention. I released a record a couple of months ago and the entire process of putting it into the world and then going on the road to play the songs has left my head spinning. It's hard to tell which direction is up these days. I'm not sure what I would do if I didn't have these mixes to put together. They're my therapy and I hope maybe they can be the same for you.

Music has always served as an escape for me. My goal with these mixes is always the same - to take a journey for an hour that soundtracks that escape. I spend a lot of time trying to make each mix a seamless thought that rises and falls along with an imagined moment in time. There's magic in those moments where you're with someone and the world opens up and anything feels possible. Whether you're right inside of that adventure or just eyes closed in bed dreaming about it, hopefully this can soundtrack your own escape.

Inverno Mix 2017

I'm not sure what I would do without music. I often tell people that music is my primary escape in life, but that's taken on a whole new meaning in the wake of my injury. The recovery process has been at times frustrating and slow for someone so used to being on the move. I had to work in short bursts over the course of a few weeks, finding new music here, building my Live session there, and working on the mix in painful 30 minute chunks. It felt like I was learning everything all over again, but it gave me something to do and it forced me to think through every small decision. I don't think its a coincidence that I finally started to feel like myself as I finished up the mix last week. It truly feels like the music in this mix saved my life, and hopefully it can be a small part in helping yours.

Verano Mix 2017

The last year has been weird. Foggy endless evenings in my studio, days locked in a cervical neck collar, nights on overnight flights, early mornings in hotel rooms. When you're working through an injury, depression, heartbreak, or even just anxiety about the world, I've always found that the days just start to blend together. The past year feels like an endless haze, full of questions and half answers. I always try to contextualize these mixes, but the truth is, making music has been true north, the one real escape. I've always used music this way, and I'm realizing more as I get older that music is pretty unimpeachable in that way. So what I can promise is that this mix is pure - full of a lot of that confusion, cloudiness, heartbreak, and hope. If you're feeling those things, this mix is for you. I hope it can be a window of hope or a ray of light; an escape you can close your eyes to and breathe for a minute.
