Our next mix is slightly different than normal as it is a live recording of a dj-set from Bell Towers. As such, there is the odd gap in the music, but once you have been wowed by the selections and technical ability you are sure you will forgive us that. Bell Towers is celebrated as an energetic DJ and house music maestro who first made his name in Australia before re-locating to London. As a selector Bell Towers fuses psychedelic dance with dreamy pop and really understands clubs and dance floors. He also makes music on labels like  Prins Thomas’s Internajonal where his boogie basslines interact with slinky drums in a truly live fashion. 

Starting with some pure feel good funk vibes, the ensuing two hours is a whirlwind ride through charismatic sounds from many different genres. It will take you up and down, round and round and have you wracking your brain to work out just how the man has managed to mix so many different styles and tempos together in such a tight knit fashion. A mix that really showcases Bell Towers’ diverse taste as much as his dexterous DJ ability, there can be no better way to kick start your week than with this one blaring out.

家のリビングルームで２台のTechnics使って収録した。すべてヴァイナルだよ。


- コンセプトがあれば教えてください。

土曜の午後、シャンパンを飲みながら最近買ったレコードと多くのお気に入り盤をチョイスしてmixしたよ。


-最近の活動を教えて下さい。

友人達とUncanny Valley、shtum、Rat Life Recordsの3つのレーベルを同時運営している。
現在は、新しいアーティストと我々のメイン・アーティストの楽曲を収録した僕達の5周年記念コンピレーションを製作中だ。これはとても特別なものになる。アートワークは、いつもコンピレーションのカバーを担当しているPaul Waakによるものだよ。

JDH and Dave P have been pushing electronic music in Brooklyn for the past decade through their party FIXED. The pair have hosted some of the best international acts from Tensanke and John Talabot to Simian Moble Disco and Lindstrom. They're also well established DJs in their own right and always know how to get the crowd moving. For the 7th Good Room Podcast they share with us some of their favorite tracks, taking us on a journey from experimental electronic music to deeper house and techno tracks. They'll be at Good Room on September 25 with Dauwd and back again in October with Marvin and Guy on the 3rd and Tensnake on the 16th.

We're happy to have one of our favourite Amsterdam acts back for another mix: Detroit Swindle.

Detroit Swindle was formed in 2011 by Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets. The duo started 0ut for dubious reasons, namely when Lars - who was programming a few nightclubs in Amsterdam - had to fire Maarten for playing too much underground music. They started talking and found out they had a mutual love for Motown, hip-hop and early house music. Not long after, they started making music together and the rest as they say, is history.

UK artist Lone emerged on a wave of rave nostalgia and computer game sound effects back in 2009. His earliest albums and EPs were like juicy peaches with reflective and refracted stabs making for succulent party sound tracks. Since then he has emerged with a new direction on each new album, his latest being full of jungle and hardcore tropes that cannot fail to make you move. As well as releasing on Werk Discs, he has made R&S his home and has become a real jewel in the underground’s crown.

As such it is a real treat to have a specially recorded mix from him, and one that gives us a hint at where he is at musically right now. Featuring four brand new Lone cuts as well as unreleased material from Ross From Friends and Gnork, his selections are decidedly deep and seductive with bumpy house and deconstructed grooves the order of the day.

His style has already led to tours around Asia and to Europe where he has played in Ibiza, at festivals like Gilles Peterson's World Wide festival and at Love International in Croatia.

An old DJ set from 10 years ago. As usual, pretty random but a fun show if I remember correctly. 
Long before Ableton Live, Traktor and USB sticks with playlists, guys like me used to hump a couple of boxes of vinyl to the club, put the needle on the record and hope for the best :) Recorded direct from the mixing board, no frills! I used to love playing Fabric, many thanks to Judy, Sean, Ruthie and all my friends for the great times :)
