I love to go back to basics with songwriting and usually on a lazy afternoon pick up the acoustic and mike it up and record with no thrills and definitely no skills.
The Green is a tribute to a piece of grass that I spent my childhood homing my football skills, Learning how to ride a bike, fighting , chatting up the local girls and anything else really.
My mom still lives on the boundary of it as we did as kids. One day back in 2019 i was leaving to go back home from a visit and looked across The Green and I felt sad it was a hell hole of a burn out car, old burger van with grass growing around it and tire marks everywhere.
There were neighbours having a barbecue on their front lawn with friends, cans, tables and chairs on the council footpath and a massive bouncy castle on the council grass. With loads of cars using it as a car park.
Is this our England ! we loved were we lived and we’re grateful for such a big piece of grass to play are internationals on.
We wasn’t posh this was a council estate with good honest people who respected their homes and others. 
Patrick would come down with his Irish family & mates to play England v Ireland and we all live out our dreams on that grass . 
Yeah we had Mad Roy and Steak out Sid trying to stop us but it never did they were just old miserable buggers.
Kids don’t play on it anymore it’s a neglected shit hole because irresponsible selfish adults made it that way.
Long Live The Green I hope someday you make a recovery ❤️‍🩹
