As posted earlier:
I understand the excitement of anticipation. We, Red Light District, wanted to select the top 3 as a group. Being a band of nearly 10 people who live all over the place with drastically different schedules, it takes time. We narrowed the 200 submissions down to a top ten... then to the top 3. There was a tie for 2nd place, so we had to do yet another voting round.

This was a timely process however, we gave our ears time to get to know each song.

We have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of creative versions of remixes presented.

There are a number of other mixes which we hope to include on the official release. Another post will follow reflecting this with all honorable mentions.

Sonny Wharton has emerged in the past couple of years as one of the brightest prospects in the UK. Described by The Shapeshifters as “one of the most prolific producers out there” he’s remixed the likes of Fatboy Slim, Frankie Knuckles and The Temper Trap. Releasing singles on Size, Toolroom, Spinnin’ and Skint Sonny has received regular support from house music heavyweights Pete Tong, Steve Angello, Roger Sanchez and Mark Knight whilst continuing to push his own label Whartone Records and dominate the download charts.﻿

As a DJ Sonny shot to fame by winning a DJ Mag mix-tape competition for Renaissance leading to sets in Ibiza at Amnesia, a weekly residency at the infamous Manumission and quickly went on to establish a formidable reputation as a DJ whilst racking up slots for the who’s who of club land with sell-out shows at Space, Pacha and Ministry Of Sound to name but a few.

Known for his technical abilities both in the studio and in the DJ booth Sonny has been able to call us at DT fans of his for a while now. Thus after enjoying a stellar 2013 that saw him continue his indomitable rise through electronic music and with an even bigger plans for the coming year for both him and his label it was only natural that invited Sonny to revisit 5 pivotal moments in his fledgling career. The fact that he also delivered us an exclusive mix to go with it was just a bonus!

Red Light District - Come On Up

The magnificent DJ Kayper invited me to get together a VIP Mix for her show on BBC Asian Network. Naturally, I obliged and we had a little chat...
Here is the interview followed by the *FULL* mix - featuring material that didn't get aired due to time constraints!

A Few Words:
The idea was to present something that would work for different calibres of audience: from the passive party-goer to the analytically attentive listener. 
Key signatures, phrasing, and semantics, are just three things that pop up naturally whenever I get on the dex while there's a crowd to be attended to.

The reason I used three decks - other than out of joyous expressionism - was that it was the only way I'd be able to play so much in such a small time, and succinctly! Oh, and they were Pioneer CDJ1000mk3s + DJM800

The highlights of the remit that I was sent was "Friday night" and "Asian", so all the tracks were specifically chosen for that function.
Arabic, Bhangra, Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggaeton, Electronica, Breakbeat, House, Dubstep, Afro, Jungle, Drum&Bass: there's something for everyone!

The mix is LIVE and in stereo, so there's some serious headphone-factor goin' on!
