A new addition to Los Angeles' indie-pop and folk scene, songwriter Wren Wilder makes her debut this year with a nostalgic, colorful, and relatable album, First Flight (releasing on all platforms this Sunday, October 20th). She was born and raised in Northern NJ, but lived with her father in Manhattan on the weekends, giving her the freedom to discover new music like her favorites; Tom Waits, Rufus Wainwright, Joni Mitchell, and Regina Spektor. Wilder grew up surrounded by different instruments and wanted to try them all. Eventually, she was asked if she wanted to start taking voice lessons. Wilder found herself as a vocalist while also having the ability to accompany herself. She didn't start writing her own music until the summer before her first year of college.

While majoring in Jazz Vocals and Music Production & Technology, she discovered a whole new world of jazz musicians besides Billie Holiday (who she grew up loving) and was heavily influenced by Blossom Dearie, Monica Zetterlund, and Bill Evans. Wilder was also given the gift of being able to collaborate with her peers and started writing her own tunes that would later show up on "First Flight".

Accompanied by a string and woodwind section on select songs, Wilder presents her debut album, First Flight, as a bird calling to the world saying, "you too can free yourself from the cage that surrounds you". In the album artwork, created by a Dutch artist @evaboneva , Wren is depicted as a forest creature that holds a key around her neck. In her lap is an oversized Wren that she comforts, who was clearly released from this empty cage in the forest.
