Aidan Martin & Jake Gunn, both gifted musicians in their own right, have joined forces to bring you authentic music that is bound to impress and entertain.

Originally from Pretoria, Aidan Martin was inspired to pick up a guitar after encountering jazz during his gap year in Edinburgh. Teaching himself to play by listening to jazz records, he then returned to South Africa and started doing gigs with his brother Johnathan Martin (from Jack Hammer). He quickly evolved into not only a remarkable guitar player, but also a superb vocalist. Ten years later, Aidan Martin has become well-known and loved for his intensity, haunting voice and distinctive sound, which has been described as an interesting blend of jazz, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Rory Gallagher and even the West-African sounds of Ali Farka Touré.

On the other side of the country, in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, Jake Gunn discovered rock 'n roll at a young age and also became a self-taught guitarist, working tirelessly to improve his skill. This paid off when he joined the Lyzyrd Kyngs (Piet Botha & Akkedis) in 2010 and spent a year under their mentorship, before starting his own band. In a short space of time, he built up a notable reputation and was described by Rolling Stone South Africa as having “the skill of boy Clapton and the voice of a morning-after-night-before Mark Knopfler.” Inspired by the Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton and BB King, his music is an entertaining mix of blues, reggae and rock 'n roll. With undeniable raw talent and fierce passion, Gunn has become a skillful guitarist and impressive vocalist, and is starting to make a mark on the South African music scene.

It would seem that it was fate for these two musicians to meet, as Gunn had always been a devoted fan of Jack Hammer, and thus also of Johnathan Martin. This led to him discovering Aidan's music, which had just as great an effect on him. As luck would have it, the Martin brothers toured down to Cape Town and joined Gunn & Piet Botha for a renowned gig at Alma Café. When Aidan eventually moved down to Cape Town, he and Gunn naturally started playing together and it soon became clear that this was a unique musical partnership. Not only complementing, but also enhancing each other's guitar playing and vocal abilities, this duo never ceases to amaze.

Between the two of them they have played various music festivals over the past decade such as Oppikoppi, Strab, Mieliepop, FORR, Landmine Rock, Tattoo Convention JHB, Up The Creek, Otterlake Easter Festival, Park Acoustics and Big Blues Festival in Kleinmond.
