I've liked this song from the first time I heard it.. It's like this really soulful tune, and sounded a bit like gospel music.. But then I studied the lyrics, turns out it's not a religious song.. There are a lot different opinions in regards of this song, but in my perspective this song tells the story of love and heartache, happiness and pain, trust and betrayal, with references to some stories in the bible.

Leonard Cohen's stated: "Hallelujah is a Hebrew word which means 'Glory to the Lord.' The song explains that many kinds of Hallelujahs do exist. I say: All the perfect and broken Hallelujahs have an equal value. It's a desire to affirm my faith in life, not in some formal religious way but with enthusiasm, with emotion."
