Que Sakamoto and Carrot Green have teamed up on international waters to present an EP featuring two originals and two remixes, released by São Paulo's Gop Tun label. Their collaborative work draws inspiration from their shared experience at the Bruma Festival, a three-day music event set amidst the lush mountains in Silva Jardim, a two-hour drive from Rio de Janeiro. In Sakamoto + NT's original, they blend Japanese-infused breakbeats with Brazilian carnival samples and the distinctive vocals of Eryy. Carrot Green's contribution, "Domingo a Noite em Silva Jardim," offers an arpeggiated journey through the misty vibes of Silva Jardim city, inspired by the festival's Sunday night dancefloor. Beyond their originals, Que Sakamoto and Carrot Green also provide fresh interpretations of each other's tracks, with different perspectives on each original song. Dive in!

Chris has been a predominant figure in the queer dance scenes in America and in Europe over many years having represented his mainstay party, now label, Spotlight from L.A., the Club Toilet Crew from Detroit and now residing in Berlin the last couple of years where he holds down regular slots at the city's major clubbing institution Berghain / Panorama Bar (most notably the party Snax which takes place there). Chris has dug deep  and worked hard with these residencies to showcase the queer roots of house, techno, disco, and other forms of dance music.

Stella Zekri (@stella-zekri-ouiddir) is based in Berlin but her sound defies the usual expectations of those who dance in the city best known for house and techno. Her sets instead are instead led by soul and emotion and reach far and wide into the worlds of hip hop, house, new beat, trance, jazz, disco and bring rich colours and exultant vibes to the scene. She often likes to play long sets and isn't afraid of twisting and turning through diverse tempos and rhythms along the way, which is something she also does at the Body Language events she founded with Camilla Rae and Caitlin Russell in 2021. They have brought something all new to the queer scene in Berlin, while her monthly Breakfast Show on Refuge Worldwide and her studio work with 80s zouk and boogie band Stella and the Longos are further creative outlets that make Stella a new school star.  

All of this is reflected in the sixty-minute selection Stella has put together for us this week: it's a celebration of her eclectic collection that is powered by outgoing pianos, emotive vocals and gleeful grooves. There are old school house jams and silky soul-laced depths, happy 90s tracks and plenty of sensuous voices that all prove Stella Zekri's ability to keep the good times flowing is second to none.

It’s all about the music first and foremost. Play what excites you and remember everyone has their own journey - patience is key.

About the mix:
I recorded this mix on a beautiful spring afternoon, which at the moment is rare for London as we’ve been deprived of any sun recently! I roughly sketched it out and then pressed play on the first track, beginning the recording as the sun was setting and by the time i finished it was dark outside. I was fully in my own world when recording this and it felt good to take things a bit deeper and have those emotional moments, with tracks such as Roman Flugal’s Lucy, which for me is such a beautiful song and Hollis P Monroe’s ‘I’m Lonely’ which is one of my all time favourite tracks. The mix is a real groover with some trippy moments, it ramps up, but never fully smashes through the front door.

Home can be anywhere, but what turns any place into that special space is how it makes us feel. Being at home brings solace, being far from it produces longing and both these affective powers work as gravitational forces, binding us not only to a certain location but to the environment fostered therein. Not every house becomes a home as much as not every home is necessarily a house, but if we are talking about that House that Frankie helped name and shape, the same one whose words became hymns are still sung at every corner of the globe and whose grooves took the world by storm, we can see how a sound can turn any dancefloor into a shelter. House, the music and its message, conjures a home for all of those willing to follow its mandates of maximum corporeal expression, deep emotional investment and expansive mental openness anywhere, as long there’s means to propagate it and people to enjoy it. It is this radical inclusive potential that makes an encounter such as the one in this episode not only possible, but truly magical: an Australian duo playing House from all over reaching a global audience through a platform created by a Brasilian crew.
