Most artists strive to find proper conditions to bring their efforts to fruition, but some yearn for something else. They end up becoming catalysts of sorts, working towards the materialisation of spaces and resources that could serve their peers so they can thrive together. Thus, apart from their own artistic expression, their creative force is used to build platforms that operate at the communal level, strengthening the collective values so the individual wills can find ways to fulfill their potential. These agents of change are scarcer than necessary but their work is a quintessential part of any scene, a pivotal element of their functioning as havens for artistry. Such a galvanising role is the one Akin Deckard has been relentlessly performing for more than a decade in his hometown via a variety of initiatives that became staples of his local nightlife, the same in which he found his own place not only as a celebrated curator and agitator, but also as a prolific selector. This offering provides sonic evidence of the passion he brings to every realm of his activities, a metaphor to the gravitational force he embodies. A manifestation of his prowess in manipulating eclectic forces to energise any kind of musical projects, be it a mix, a party, label or  whatever else he sets himself out to do.

Providing a platform to harbour the selections by members of this global group of music aficionados to which we belong is a task we feel lucky to undertake. Here is the place to be if you live it to the fullest and the place to come if you love it the most, mainly because we manage to make this space both a gathering place for everyone and a repository for their precious offerings. But, more than being a part of this community, what truly gives us joy is to see it thriving, especially when fresh talent such as this week’s guest joins the fray of our ever-growing family. Nana Kohat is a young and gifted DJ whose special blends of rhythmic frolic and melodic madness create dancing concoctions that are quite hard to resist whenever they invade our ears to flood our minds and conquer our bodies. Results she achieves with a remarkable sense of place and time for each track at every moment, forming captivating sequences that create motion while generating emotion. This very ingenuity and the sensibility is what she offers in every one of her mixes, the same she brings to this one and we are glad to share here.

If anyone asks what is the fundamental raw material worked by the artisans we celebrate through this series, many answers may come to mind. After all, there are plenty of elements at play right at the center of that rich universe of interactions conjured between a DJ, the music and the crowd, all of them personally felt, collectively shared and universally understood. But, if we had to choose just one, it’d certainly be that very elusive yet quite tangible thing we call ‘groove’, the quintessential force that puts everything in motion within that interplay. It is also the substance that feeds this space so it can provide a platform for those who excel in its mastery as well as a place where everyone could enjoy its energy. The same a young talent such as Fruno manipulates with both care and flare to create situations where its power can be experienced in all its glory. Hailing from one of those idyllic spots that punctuate the vast Brasilian coast and honing his skills in the hedonistic dancefloors of the Southernmost parts of its shore, he carved his place as one of the most reliable selectors in the region by delivering sets brimming with that elemental force, much in a similar way as he keeps it flowing constantly throughout a mix that runs hectic in its pace, eclectic in its parts and ecstatic in its mood. At the end, what we have is yet another stellar example of the kind of excellence in the craft of making people dance that we are happy to enshrine here on a regular basis.

Ensembles are not the norm among the preferred performance formats chosen by the craftsmen that make up this noble art of playing music for the enjoyment of others. It's been deeply individualized throughout most of its history and, looking carefully into it, one might be able to find a few famous duos or even fewer legendary trios, but seldom quite a tight knit quartet such as the people responsible for this platform and everything behind, beneath and beyond it. Gop Tun, the name of the project that congregates them around a common goal and shared vision, is more than just the multifarious brainchild of four music lovers truly, madly and deeply committed to make us dance by any means necessary using every tool at their disposal, it is also a collective effort in trying to foster the perfect conditions for that precious interaction between their peers and their public to happen, generating the priceless moments that make the stuff of indelible memories. As a visionary group of curators, their unified efforts nurtured a host of initiatives that range from events that shaped their hometown’s nightlife, a label that is relentless in promoting regional talent, as well as this very series now celebrating its 100th edition of collecting musical journeys helmed by people from all over the globe. As a gifted team of selectors, interconnected by the type of complicity built over decades of friendship, they operate at a molecular level in which every aspect that binds them is exactly what makes them move freely in order to create astounding musical experiences of which this mix is but a tiny yet powerful example, one that carries within it all the energy and inventiveness that goes into everything they do.

Using worldly sounds to entice otherworldly sensations that stimulate bodily motion. If anyone asks for a straightforward response to the age-old question of 'what is the role of a gifted selector in creating a great dancefloor', this equation yields the most succinct and precise explanation anyone could offer. And we should know, since these fascinating characters lie front and centre of the narrative we strive to weave on a regular basis with this series, providing a platform to feature their unique talents and singular visions. Our current guest is one of the finest among these bearers of goods and carriers of moods that take us along for rides that crisscross borderless spaces of imagination and emotion. Colombia-based, Brasilian-born DJ Hermano loves to move the rhythmic riches of these two places he calls home back and forth, but also further beyond, cross-pollinating traditions and defying definitions in the process.  Something he accomplishes in manifold ways, from delicious, ferocious mixes such as this one to the magnificent work done by his label, Intimas. All of them being fruit of the same devotion to musical discovery and corporeal liberation, one that is not only fed by scholarly lust, but mainly borne out of brotherly love.

Glossy Mario is the founder of the record label Glossy Mistakes. Focused on reissues and experimental sounds with an ear to the dancefloor, the Madrid-based label has now over ten releases on vinyl of a variety of artists across the globe, both contemporary and reissues. He has played in New York, Milano, Lisboa, Ibiza, Berlin or London, and he is part of the young generations of djs twisting Madrid's scene. He has appeared in the major european radios and he has a monthly residency on Kiosk Radio. He digs deep to find what he's looking for — thoughtful, vibrant, high-quality music that draws on the ancient and the hyper-modern, the intimate and the social, the 4th World and the open-minded discotheque.
