A local on the rise, and raising the temperatures with her contribution to our podcast series. Lucía, aka ADRIANA LUCID, swayed our spirits during a set played before Apron Records labelhead Steven Julien at RadioRadio this year. Tougher Detroit slappin’ rhythms and thick melodies were at the center of her sound, mixed with a flair that created a flirtatious energy in the room. In this podcast, she’s doing no different, but does so with slow-jammed old-skool hip-hop, silky soft funk and R&B, a wink to Chicago house, and cheeky vocals that can make you feel aroused, having you fantasize about that person you'd like to spend some time with. A super smooth hour, perfect for a day like today: it's hot.

Inspired by a sweet, sexy, and funky daydream while listening to 'Scandalous' by Prince, I created this hour with my LUV S1GN series in mind, calling the mix: ‘Would U Let Me Dress U?’ With LUV S1GN, I’m curating the musical legacy of Prince in a playful, storytelling way by blending his work (including samples, covers, uncredited material, productions, collabs, etc.) with any other music that sets the tone for the story. Sharing can be deemed as the quintessential human action, since some of the most delightful things in our lives can simply be made better when we perform this fundamental gesture. Be it mild altering substances, knowledge, orgasms or the one that gives a reason to be here periodically: music, the best qualities of all of these elements are enhanced when enjoyed with someone else. DJing in itself is a radical act in which the person at the controls shares their taste and warmth in order to take us all on their journey. We share space and time, energy and feelings, to conjure these magical moments on the dancefloor. So, when we have a duo operating these factors, chances are that they will all be intensified and diversified at a similar level. Sharing a creative platform is more about complicity than synchronicity, but when the compatibility is just precise, all risks are divided and the results multiplied as our current guests show very well across their multifarious presence on both the booth and the studio. Sometimes we happen to take some of the fundamental aspects that guide our main mission for which this platform is a crucial resource for granted, even if we never underestimate their place in what makes it something singular amid the multitude of similar content that can be found online. Take eclecticism for example, a quintessential characteristic of every single contribution to the series and an overall quality that is pursued by each of the guests we have in the construction of their deeply personal musical narratives. Not a mean feat, if we take into account the sheer diversity of rhythmic patterns and harmonic structures involved that need to be concatenated cohesively or, at the very least, sequenced harmoniously to be able to engulf us in its motional thrust and emotional pull. As far as metaphors go, calling this platform a port of sorts wouldn't be much of a stretch. The same alchemy that we strive to reiterate, not merely replicate at every episode, especially when we have a gifted guest hailing from that harbour of historical heritages. Ubunto is not just one of its finest artists, but a sagacious selector whose hectic and eclectic mixes are endless sources of danceable energy and aural delight.

These texts are meant to be a sort of introduction as much as they serve as a kind of statement of intentions, from the hosts and guests alike: a nice prelude to the musical message the latter aims at conveying as much as the former means to disseminate. Given the source material, there is a recurrence of themes and terms, something whoever follows this platform might have noticed long ago. We constantly praise guests for being prolific, we often mention abundance, we frequently talk of wealth and richness, and so on. But what lies behind these concepts is an idea that becomes fundamentally obvious whenever we remember the fact that we are talking about culture and especially when we realise that we do it through one of its most fertile forms. So, when we welcome an artist that fully personifies all of these principles, from moniker to musicality, it is inevitable to see it as an augur of sorts. Ceres Yo embodies all of the above, adding prowess and eclecticism to the mix, as she does to this one gracing our series in this episode and everything else she’s involved with. Here we are offered an odyssey across a rhythmic itinerary as varied as it is enthralling.
