Thought it must be about time for another episode from Deepcast HQ, with Myles Mac & DJ Possum back in the mix for a relaxing journey guided by the eternal balearic breeze of the 90s. Notions of time travelling and globetrotting abound in the little textual nuggets that accompany each of the fabulous contributions to this series because the platform thrives through a very special kind of connection that can bend the principles of time and space, powered by music and driven by people. It can unite territories and generations with a sonic message that can be decoded and shared by anyone willing to listen. And every new episode reinforces the effectiveness of our efforts, regardless of the provenance of the guest or the origins of the audience. That is how we can totally rely on the fact that none can imagine the type of aural offering that a gifted Chilean selector based in Spain will provide, even if the expectations are let to run wild. What we have is a wonderful mosaic of House variants that display the genre’s versatility while manipulating its rhythmic energy to create a dense compound of powerful danceability. That is mainly what Fernanda Arrau has been doing for the past years on the decks, delivering exquisite mixes such as the one we have here and producing her own forays into this genre that, very much like her, knows no frontiers.

For edition 69 of our guest mix series, we welcome once again London-based record collector Ilan (Night City Life). A true Italo enthusiast, Ilan curated Night City Life (@spacetalkmusic), one of our favourite compilations of 2019. Night City Life II will be dropping this summer (and we can’t wait 🎷)

As a DJ his selections are always rich with nostalgia and emotion, taking us on a journey through time and sound. Here is a recording of his vinyl-only set from Flow Festival last year; an Italo-tinged expedition in the Helsinki sunshine.

It is clear that the environment fostered by this platform functions around a radical notion of sharing that involves many layers of our beings, from what we are and do to what we have and want. After all, this is how we link up with people hailing from every corner of the planet, regardless of how far away we are from each other, artists and listeners alike. More than a meeting place, this is a mingling space for anyone willing to partake in the principle that guides this collective endeavour, the same that allows us to share a lot more than a few seasonal commonalities with our current guest. Thus, beyond the fact that we experience similar weather cycles at the same time of the year, we found plenty of connective elements with the musicality of this gifted Aussie selector that prompted us to invite her to add some of it to our ever expanding mosaic of mixes and what Evie brought to the collection is nothing short of everything wonderful we already expected. What we have here is an adventurous admixture of grooves and textures that packs enough energy to traverse the globe back and forth.

Metaphors related to energy are common currency among those who try to render into words the manifold dynamics that take place on a dancefloor. They are useful symbolic tools that offer both a fair appreciation of the exchanges between the people involved and an accurate depiction of the forces at play. And, if we consider how much sonic and affective power fill up those places in every dimension imaginable whenever the music starts playing, we quickly realise it is all about the circulation of waves across the space and through everyone, flowing constantly between generation and conversion and manifesting itself in motion and emotion. The dynamics at play are not as intricate as they are delicate, relying more on harmony and intensity than balance and precision, and the proper handling of these delicate parameters demands the type of sensibility that our current guest shows at every opportunity she has, be it online or offline, as their deep heat does not dissipate. Sol’s sets radiate in splendorous ways, emitting joy and conserving excitement in equal measures, while manipulating warmth and molding moods for maximum enjoyment. And that’s exactly what we have here.
