Mirren is perhaps best known for resurrecting a trove of tantalising 90s/00s cross over jams through his own youtube channel, and for wowing local listening bar enthusiasts lucky enough to catch him in full flight. Sit back, relax and enjoy the smoothness personified. Safe to say he's left no stone or obscure white label unturned for this one!

Q. I get the sense you are a guy who finds real enjoyment in digging deep for long neglected jams and resurrecting them for fresh ears, with frequent uploads to your YouTube channel regularly blowing minds on the internet (speaking from personal experience here!). While there’s a wide range of styles uploaded to the channel, has there been a general theme developing or certain characteristics that you look for when deciding what to share?

A. Glad you've dug the channel! I mean I've been massively influenced by others (e.g. Archive Digital, Modern Art, Mike Who) who were casually dropping heat across their channel/mixes years ago that I never would have come across otherwise. So trying to find and share songs in a similar way has always been the motivation. But you’re at the mercy of what you stumble across, which is why I’m not uploading exclusively mid tempo hip house bangers like I really want haha. I think the variety keeps things interesting though, or at least is hopefully providing a broader appreciation for what’s out there - especially for us Aussie folk.

Q. What inspiration did you draw upon when putting the mix together? Is there a sound, feeling or time period in dance music history that connects all the different elements in one way or another?

A. Truthfully this mix is a collection of fun music I've found first-and-foremost, so it might say more about my searching patterns than it being an intentional narrative.. catchy 90/00s hip hop cut-throughs seem to be in no short supply! I think the wealth of music available in the genre does say something about how versatile (and enjoyable) it is and how it can be used as a vehicle for different cultures, ideas or influences. So maybe the mix is me highlighting this :`)

Q. Are there any records in the mix that are particularly close to your heart, or old favourites that you’ve been keeping up your sleeve for the right moment? If so, what’s the story behind those and how might you have stumbled across them?

A chunk of the mix is from lucky discogs pickups or random spotify dives so they’re not the most romantic stories, but finding a song in that deep internet corner definitely adds a fondness. There’s also a few dope tunes from some great channels/crews scattered throughout. But 'Njen Grad' and 'Wuck U Right' feel particularly sentimental due to how many hours I’ve clocked listening, so I’m excited to share them!

FRIENDLY MIXTAPE - SANCTUARY

It is clear that the environment fostered by this platform functions around a radical notion of sharing that involves many layers of our beings, from what we are and do to what we have and want. After all, this is how we link up with people hailing from every corner of the planet, regardless of how far away we are from each other, artists and listeners alike. More than a meeting place, this is a mingling space for anyone willing to partake in the principle that guides this collective endeavour, the same that allows us to share a lot more than a few seasonal commonalities with our current guest. Thus, beyond the fact that we experience similar weather cycles at the same time of the year, we found plenty of connective elements with the musicality of this gifted Aussie selector that prompted us to invite her to add some of it to our ever expanding mosaic of mixes and what Evie brought to the collection is nothing short of everything wonderful we already expected. What we have here is an adventurous admixture of grooves and textures that packs enough energy to traverse the globe back and forth.

Metaphors related to energy are common currency among those who try to render into words the manifold dynamics that take place on a dancefloor. They are useful symbolic tools that offer both a fair appreciation of the exchanges between the people involved and an accurate depiction of the forces at play. And, if we consider how much sonic and affective power fill up those places in every dimension imaginable whenever the music starts playing, we quickly realise it is all about the circulation of waves across the space and through everyone, flowing constantly between generation and conversion and manifesting itself in motion and emotion. The dynamics at play are not as intricate as they are delicate, relying more on harmony and intensity than balance and precision, and the proper handling of these delicate parameters demands the type of sensibility that our current guest shows at every opportunity she has, be it online or offline, as their deep heat does not dissipate. Sol’s sets radiate in splendorous ways, emitting joy and conserving excitement in equal measures, while manipulating warmth and molding moods for maximum enjoyment. And that’s exactly what we have here.

Richard Fribert and Gabriel Badwan presents a ride into completely unknown music territory, filled with their gems from the 80s-90s music, from Brazil and beyond. Parisian based Swedish DJ Richard and Curitiba based Gabriel shares a passion for unearthing yet unheard of music from the depths of the music vaults, and this mix is no exception. Together they form an explosive duo filled with both mad music and a highly positive contagious energy that defies the conventional and everything mainstream.

Good news! After a few months off, Pacific Spirit is back with another hot session courtesy of NYC's finest, @enterthelloyd. Here are a few words about the mix from the man himself...

“I recently found this mix of weird R&B dubs while pillaging old laptops for music and I haven’t turned it off since. If you've ever dug through old drives for anything you know how mundane and unrewarding it can be. It's like a road trip that never ends. However, when you come across a file labeled  "Actavis and Activator" you pull the car over and see what's going on. I couldn’t tell you when or why I made it but I’m glad I did. Feel good vibes for feel bad times. Hope you like it.”

Sharing can be deemed as the quintessential human action, since some of the most delightful things in our lives can simply be made better when we perform this fundamental gesture. This mix is from Palm Pilot and Break Mode under their moniker Freak Out! and it references a lot of things they play at their nights in Portland. They like to ride the wave where genres collide and create euphoric moments that can be exciting or excite them at least. They take the dancefloor along for the ride.

Apart from what the internet itself has allowed us to cover in that regard over the past decades, the music we feature helps us cover the vastness of many geographic territories and a variety of demographic generations. Sometimes we happen to take some of the fundamental aspects that guide our main mission for which this platform is a crucial resource for granted, even if we never underestimate their place in what makes it something singular amid the multitude of similar content that can be found online. Take eclecticism for example, a quintessential characteristic of every single contribution to the series and an overall quality that is pursued by each of the guests we have in the construction of their deeply personal musical narratives. Not a mean feat, if we take into account the sheer diversity of rhythmic patterns and harmonic structures involved that need to be concatenated cohesively or, at the very least, sequenced harmoniously to be able to engulf us in its motional thrust and emotional pull.
