A pece I wrote in response to a request from a listing service I subscribe to. I was curious to see if I could write a theme for a TV program sort of thing.  It's a bit dated, perhaps, but I'm really not into "electronica". It was, somewhat predictably, rejected.

A Current Affair

I've been busy with a major move, so I haven't had time to write anything for a while, but I thought I'd post this old piece from my archive. I tried to "think" like a sax player. Synth saxes never sound quite right, though.  Please excuse the sloppy ending.

The Elevator

This is an old track, from when I had just gotten a Yamaha DGX620, and was just fooling around on it , trying to improvise a "sax" over a repeating chord progression.

Short movie cue.  Depicting the vast grain fields of the Mid West.

This is a four part polyphonic piece, written in strict counterpoint.  The recording is from a performance at Harvard U, and sung by "The Spectrum Singers".

Traditional motet.  It is rather contrapuntal, using all the traditional techniques, imitation, canon etc. and is written in strict adherence to "rules" of range, leaps, parallels etc.   I have written quite a lot of this kind of stuff for use in the service of the Anglican church.

Elegie For Strings

An old recording of the second of two fantasie for brass quintet that I wrote while at Berklee decades ago.   It's deliberately devoid of frills, and if one doesn't fall asleep listening to it, one may discern a form developed out of an unusually tightly held motif. It was recorded on a cassette, hence the, less than ideal, sound quality.

An arrangement of the "birthday" song in response to a listing from a listing service I'm a member of.  I arranged it for 5 saxes, 2 tpts, and 2 tbns + bass, drums, guit, synth + strings.

Sentimental "Easy Listening" piece.  I got the idea for the piece when I had nothing better to do,  so I wrote it in a matter of minutes, and produced it in half a day or so.  Hardly the kind of stuff I usually write, but why not?  I like all sorts of music, even this kind of stuff, believe it or not, and as a composer, I do take some pride in being somewhat versatile, and able to write in different genres.  I was reluctant to post it, since I was worried that all my friends would unfollow me as a result(LOL!) I hope that won't happen, and that I'll be forgiven for this indiscretion. So much for all excuses, and disclaimers.  The sequenced piano brings new meaning to the term "hammerklavier", but rest assured, it would have been far worse had I tried to play it!  The piece is entirely diatonic, and the motif is extremely simple, but
 I think it would work as "Muzak", in a movie, when you are on hold on the phone, or waiting in the dentists office or such.

Traditional Baroque piece.  I tried to capture the energy, and contrapuntal complexity of a baroque "mini" concerto.
