Patch: Applied Acoustics Super Analog softsynth and arpeggiator. The "instrument" is a Teensy microcontroller (http://pjrc.com/store/teensy.html) driven by 4 pushbuttons and an infrared range sensor. The 4 buttons each play a different chord (which gets arpeggiated by the AAS softsynth), and the range sensor controls the patch brightness.

A sonification of air traffic in the San Francisco Bay Area, at 9pm on Feb 15, 2021. Plane altitudes map to pitch, and distance to the plane maps to MIDI volume.

Data comes from my ADSB receiver (https://flightaware.com/adsb/prostick/), which publishes flight position data on a TCP port. Code running on my Mac reads that data and maps it to MIDI notes which are sent to a DAW.

I fiddle around with micrcontrollers and music when not making a living writing software. Once upon a time I played trombone and occasionally got paid for it.
