Offish @ Voynich Invites (03.09.22)

Coming off the back of a very strong year which saw much sought after and heralded releases on 31 Recordings, Samurai Music and Paradox Music, Toronto stalwart Gremlinz revisits the lead track off his "Fallen EP" released a year ago on Ink's seminal Architecture imprint.
Gremlinz and Ink rope in three current contemporaries of the sound they helped shape in Drum & Bass today to lend their angle to "Fallen"
First up, "Fallen"(original mix) is Gremlinz one solo turn on this project, a firm statement of intent that solidifies the veterans mastery of his own sound. The seemingly subtle roll of the beats is underpinned by a ruthless screw face b line and slashed in and out with vicious break switches. Murky bleeps and bloops combine with hair raising pads evoking a rising spooky tension that never lets up for the full duration of the track. An absolutely sinister lurker of a tune.

Martian Man utilizes the original mixes breaks, adding his own percussive elements, sound man vocals and reinterpretation of Gremlinz brooding bass line movements.  One for the rollers.

He gives Omni fans a real treat with 4 tracks of immensely deep Artcore Atmospheric Jungle. The opener Ignorance is Bliss skillfully balances chopped breaks and serene melodics while easily retaining that dancefloor edge. Runaway Heaps more beautifully chopped breaks at the listener as swirls of pads and a crescendo of bass stabs thunder the track forward effortlessly. The title track 'Fractured Light' begins with delicate arpeggios and drifting pads before rolling breaks create another breakbeat led masterpiece. The EP ends on The Outer Surfaces, a sublime arpeggio-driven journey through joyous realms that perfectly replicate the deep mid 90's sound. This is a superb EP and we can't wait to hear more from this great artist.
