"There are (more or less) three strands of punk rockers: the irreverent pranksters of the Ramones, the serious revolutionaries of Crass, and the visionary poet, like Patti Smith. Pretty much every band to come through the scene since has combined those three influences in various proportions. No-one is ever going to accuse Baby Baby of being influenced by Crass or Patti Smith. And that's not a problem at all. Hell, they call their music “fun rock.” This is music not just designed to be the soundtrack to a party, but to incite one. Their new album Big Boy Baller Club isn't likely to change the world, but damn it if it won't change your mood.

The album kicks off with a spoken intro explaining the rules of the Big Boy Baller Club over a synth line straight from some educational Flash game. You are now officially one of Fontez, Kyle, Grant, Colin, and Ryan's Best Franz. The new record is full of all the things that made Baby Baby's last album Money so glorious: giant goofy hooks, pounding guitars, and periodic bursts of pure unfiltered weird. Album highlights like “Can't Spell Conch Without the 'CH'” “Best Franz” and “Keep On Dancing” shows a band with boundless creativity and inventiveness despite the fact that nearly every song's goal is to get you moving. They may mostly only hit one note, but it's a damn good note, and they find a surprising amount of depth in it. A lot of that comes down to the tightness of the band, and the classic showmanship of frontman Fontez. The man pours every bit of himself into the microphone in service of keeping everyone dancing. It's as if keeping the party going is the most important thing in the world to him and his merry band of pranksters. That enthusiasm is contagious.

The record closes on an unexpectedly deep note. The one-two punch of “Heavy Hearts Club” and the surprisingly poignant “Outro” shows the loneliness and frustration the day after the party. Bank accounts empty, and the love found last night just walked out the door. The “Outro” drives it home further over the same synth bleeps from the “Intro.” But it wouldn't be Baby Baby without some sort of wry smile to undercut it all. After quoting the lyrics to “Heavy Hearts Club” the last word is a self-mockingly self-congratulatory “poetic.” Sure. Why not? Hey Everyone,

PLEASE ENJOY "We Do This All Night Long" by Baby Baby!  It is from their current album entitled "Money" - and if you have not heard it yet, you better go listen to it!

"Baby Baby is Fontez Brooks, Kyle Dobbs, Grant Wallace, and Colin Boddy—all from Atlanta. Their concerts often have band members trading spots on vocals and drums. The drums are key to this band, and there are a lot of them. Expect to hear a lot of chanting in the crowd. All the howls, yelling, and participation are key to how much fun you have at this show. Trust me.

The origins of the band are shrouded in mystery but rumor has it that the band met in Carlton, GA (now located in Atlanta, GA).  According to Fontez Brooks, “That’s when a lot of gangster [expletive] happened.” It was there all the guys found a common ground in the music they all loved. Their influences range from Michael Jackson to Sub Pop. While on tour, the band gets into crazy antics that can be followed on their Facebook page. Let’s just say that their videos will put the MTV show Jackass to shame.  Kyle Dobbs says, “Sometimes we like to play this game where we pee in a bottle and toss it to the driver when they aren’t looking.”

Multi-instrumentalist Kyle Dobbs started playing instruments at a very early age, starting with playing the drums, then bass, then guitar. On stage, Kyle loves to play as many instruments as possible to “keep himself busy.” This is only the tip of the iceberg in describing how wild and frantic a Baby Baby concert is. Percussionist Colin Boddy describes the band as, “Party rock. Sweaty and weird. People will tell us that we sound like Kings of Leon but dancier.

“We try and encourage nudity at our shows but that sometimes turns awkward and a lot of dudes end up taking their shirt off.” Yes, you will see a lot of chanting at their shows. "They'll do this all night long"
"You must not know who you're dealing with," Fontez Brooks whispers on Money's tent pole track "Fire." Then Baby Baby combusts into a feverish frenzy of breakdown dancebeats, grunge-worthy distortion, and one funky-ass bass line as the chorus chants "set my heart on fire!" It's a beautiful moment from a garage-pop band that's more punk than anything seen this side of the millennium. Every track on Money features Brooks' soulful yet cartoonish vocals, Grant's impressive caveman-esque drumming and Kyle's technical bass calisthenics. Newcomer Colin adds an air with breathy backups and miscellaneous percussion.

"Fire" predictably scorches. "London Bridges" is a heartfelt dance jam about being in the "friend zone." "Fight Club" is surprisingly heavy with a down and dirty guitar line that they beat to death - fitting, considering the track's title. It ends at least twice, only to start again (and again) in increasingly hilarious fashion.

Who would want it to end anyway? Baby Baby's entertainment is infinite. Just look at the album's title track, cleverly named "$." Or the bank robbing fantasy "Nothing to Lose" where the perpetrators "have to be home by five." It's hilarious. The catchy melodies and memorable hooks are a bonus.

Money is just four dudes having fun slamming on their instruments and acting a fool. Fortunately they do so with surprising skill and the songs are a blast. It's worth it just to hear Brooks rant about a bad date on the album's first track, titled, "I Could Have Taken You to See the Blink 182 Reunion Show but I Spent $20 Taking You Out on a Date Instead and You Didn't Return My Phone Call so Now I Want My Refund (aka $20)."
