Brought up on a diet of hip hop, electro and 80's synth pop, they have helped shape the house music movement without all the hype and fuss that surrounds some of their peers and contemporaries. Ralph Lawson should need no introduction as it would be impossible to list all that he has achieved in such a short space but here's a whistle stop tour anyway. 

Having cut his teeth as resident DJ at back to basics, even playing the first record in the club, before going onto become musical director and help the club to win multiple awards. Ralph has gone on to perform across the globe in countless famous venues too long to list but including The Hacienda, Sub Club, fabric, The Loft Barcelona, Space & DC10. 

Ralph also founded 20/20 Vision Recordings, a label as relevant now as it was when founded back in 1995 that has released music from an eclectic range of artists as musically diverse as Crazy P, Maya Jane Coles, Christian Loffler, Carl Finlow and Voigtmann over 400 releases. There is something very incredibly special about that in our eyes, with multiple releases spanning the years still never leaving the bags of us here at W.A.P.

When you take a step back and look at Ralph’s history and musical knowledge as a DJ, giving this mix a spin is a no brainer. The man quite simply loves music and that is so very evident in the unique and fresh energy he brings to each & every set. 

We are blessed & honoured to have Ralph kick off our new series with a journey into the brain courtesy of new mycelium networks. From a slow chuggy start the mix builds into mind expanding acid house while being nailed to the floor by cabinet shaking bass along the way. This is full frequency mixing to be enjoyed on a road trip…

"Staring out across the absolutely packed Lawn of Gottwood Festival 2024 as the sun shone through the trees on Crazy P dropping ‘Heartbreaker' I knew I had a mission to pull off. And that was to first attempt to keep the crowd and second take it from 120bpm disco and drop it off somewhere around 135 bpm electro ready for Freakenstein to come on in full swing. Not the easiest job in the world but one I felt confident to pull off knowing the Gottwood crowd, Crazy P and the Freaky one so well after being a part of all their lives for many years. This is a mix I found on an old hard drive from 2012 that I never got round to sharing… when house was tech and tech was house and deep house was deep, you get where I’m heading. Anyway, I’m dedicating it to my amazing unique Uncle Pete… RIP.. who’s funeral was just the other day and I could not attend due to this shit show sandwich we’re all in right now. It’s  little deep, a little Jazzy.. but I think Uncle Pete would have approved in parts.. he was a proper dude and we’ll miss him very very much! Dedicated to the Greatest Uncle in the world…. And aptly named! For Pete’s Sake :) xxx
