Boblebad Jukebox

Fantasound is the fifth full length album from Slovenian Space Disco producer Ichisan. This debut LP on international label Discolypso follows recent singles Harmona and Margit Mono. Ichisan’s sound is Space Disco Pop Bliss - swooshing synths collide with pulsing rhythms and twinkling melodies, creating a kaleidoscopic universe of pure joy.

The artist explains the process:

"The album was recorded during the 2020 lockdown period. In those long uncertain days I watched all kinds of movies and rediscovered the ‘1940 Fantasiaʼ with my three year old son.
I started researching the story behind the production of the animated musical film and especially the sound production of Fantasia. Fantasound was a stereophonic sound reproduction system developed by engineers of Walt Disney and RCA. That is how I found the album title. After the album was recorded I knew that the artwork must be related to Fantasia. I always had ‘The Sorcererʼs Apprenticeʼ in my mind as an inspiration for the album artwork. Mickey Mouseʼs dreams in the dark-blue space and Fantasia poster logo were guidelines. The illustrator Meta Wraber delivered the fantastic artwork in her signature watercolour technique."

'Fantasound’ is a symphony of disco and italo, space synth waves and a happy-go-lucky driving rhythms. A sound that doesn't exist in the real world, the Fantasound is very much alive and in our mind during our happiest moments.

After teasing with several EPs, Ichisan blesses the world via Discolypso with the full Fantasound, an immersive ecstatic experience filled with twists and turns that will keep you on your Tip Top toes.

Ichisan - Fantasound

Beatservice label regular Boblebad returns with their much anticipated new album ‘Rund i kantene’. Across eight magnificent tracks, he explores cross-dimensional funk, weird jazz and polyamorous house.

Boblebad, real name Ulf Moen Denneche, is a genuinely original creative and all-around production dynamo based in Oslo.  
He debuted on this label last spring with 'Vill Falafel', and his powerfully individual music has also come on the likes of Eskimo, Full Pupp, Paper Recordings, and Aquavit Beat. 

Boblebad also plays the trombone for a cultured Afrobeat band and rousing, jazz-inspired big band. As such, he has deep musical roots
and rich skills that all play out on this genre-defying new album.
Kosmische-informed crescendos define opener 'Rund i Kantene' before singles 'Kald Fisk' and 'Syrebad' demonstrate Boblebad's iconoclastic yet fun-loving approach to beat-making. The superb 'Syrebad' is a propulsive big-room bomb, locked and loaded for high climactic impact with its lively mix of laser chimes, soft tapping drums and muscular subs from the depths. 'Laminat' offers brilliantly spooky boogie from outer-space whilst there are rugged EBM-referencing synths on 'Tusker' and 'Havdans' is a neck-snapping dark disco beat. Smokey, left-of-centre electronics feature on 'Bred Last' and closer 'Funky Snegle' is a wonky and elastic rhythm to send you off loose-limbed.

Boblebad breaks all the rules while serving high-class club functionality and plenty of musical charm on this
exquisite debut album.

Rheinzand - Facciamo L'Amore (Scorpio Twins Remix) - s0609

The badabing diskos crew digs deep once more and comes up with two downtempo indie-house monsters from label regulars Vinny Villbass and Sommerfeldt.

Producer, artist, sound guru and DJ Vinny Villbass hails from Oslo with releases on Eskimo and Trunkfunk. He has also worked with experimental electronic artist Pantha Du Prince and is a versatile performer and musician. Here he works with Sommerfeldt who has previously worked under various aliases on acclaimed labels such as Paper Recordings and Full Pupp. He is an equally prominent figure of the Oslo club circuit and both of these new tracks came together while eating basement fish (fermented trout that's been cooking in a bucket of brine in a basement for two months) in a wood cabin somewhere in the Norwegian mountains during the pandemic of 2021. Opener 'Back in Time' leans backward in both rhythm and harmony and creates plenty of space for its heavy claps and hypnotic vocal cuts. This alluring and artful groove is perfect for both sunlit beaches and dark clubs alike. As always with this label, it's a track that oozes musicianship and class. The equally fresh 'Basement Fish' goes even deeper but explores harder energies as disharmonic analog synth mayhem is held together by rhythmic vocals from the ever-amazing Toshybot who was once part of late 90s supergroup Tøyen. It's a rugged groove with tripped-out synth effects designed to bring all new vibes to the dance floor. Vinny Villbass & Sommerfeldt have hooked themselves a couple of beauties for this EP. Hailing from Oslo, Norway, Ulf Moen Denneche aka Boblebad makes his debut on the Swedish powerhouse When Disco Goes Wrong with a rich six-track EP divided into four well-produced originals and two equally high-level remixes made with love by Wolf Hackmine and Högt I Tak (SXDNS179), one of the label bosses himself.

With solid appearances on Beatservice, Eskimo, Full Pupp, Paper Recordings, and Re:vibe Music, Ulf is one of those artists who have managed to develop a multi-influenced sonority without making it so evident to the audience. Shards of Disco and House blended with hints of Balearic and Electronica give birth to immersive and highly danceable cuts devoted to triggering big-smiled faces on the dance floor.    

Premiered here, “Bakgårdskatt” swerves off a little bit from his most customary output. The reason: The tangled and elaborate distortions “Bob” conceived in order to deliver an out-of-the-box theme whose gait tends to please even the most demanding ears out there. Intelligent electronic music at its best here, in our humble opinion.

Juno Download review: Boblebad - that'll be Norwegian for 'hot tub' or 'jacuzzi', then - goes by the name of Ulf Moen Denneche in real life and hails, unsurprisingly, from Oslo. 

Here he comes to Citizens Of Vice with three tracks of (mostly) heavily electronic nu disco, with the title track a jaunty, lolloping affair sporting some Daft Punk-esque guitar flourishes, 'Just Think About That Feeling' a slightly deeper, spacier number built for late-hours play, and 'At The Beach' the quirkiest and least synth-tastic cut of the three with its sampled seaside sounds, insistent hand percussion, Spanish guitars and kiddy vox.

Paper Recordings' Ben Davis takes off his Flash Atkins cape and mask to launch a new project exploring things left of centre and balearic.

In these disposable times, Stubb will celebrate community and DIY with a limited run of 300 vinyl screen-printed kraft card sleeves of commissioned illustrations by artist Rachel Johns plus hand-drawn labels by Hebden Bridge's The Egg Factory.

We Are Launching is a journey in to psychedelic balearica with one of the most exciting artists of recent years, Jane Weaver. Her Mercury Music Prize long-listed album Modern Kosmology was described by The Guardian as 'a lean and thrillingly addictive slice of unearthly pop'. The Stubb collaboration is sublime head trip to the deep reaches of space and electronica with hallucinatory guitars, burbling synths and arpeggiators that are beautifully set off by Jane's ethereal vocals.

Mike Lindsay is founder and producer of folktronica pioneers Tunng and his distinctive tones sing the praises of doing nothing on Boring Days, which is psychedelic leftfield pop at it's finest. The track is locked down by a nagging fifth bass with vocal pops, hand claps, muted afro guitar, washed synths and arps that build before the choruses hit in a wave of analogue keyboards and fuzz guitar. After that, a gloriously stretched outro takes you straight to the mediterranean.

There's also an edited instrumental that brings out the sunshine.

After a first set of remixes of RSS Disco's track Lunar Fling, which were released in December 2019 on Mireia, a second round of different musical approaches to the track is rung in just in time of the new decade. Lakeshouse and Das Komplex took on remix duties for the label's first release of 2020. The latter, whose real name is Marcin Lukaszewicz, has been putting out selective works on labels such as Father And Son Records And Tapes and Paramida's Love On The Rocks and has started hitting all sorts of people's radar, amongst those Dj Harvey, who has supported some of Marcin's music at some of his shows. His remix approach for Lunar Fling, understandably enough, captures several moods and influences, so basically Das Komplex does just what his artist name suggests, he takes the listener through complex sounds, which are incorporated into a multi-layered arrangment, in particular Marcin combines the disco-ish note from the RSS Disco original take with piano chords as well as deep and dark textures. 

RSS Disco's single 'Lunar Fling' will be released on Mireira Records on March 9th, 2020.

Boblebad, real name Ulf Moen Denneche, is an artist that has the essence of creativity coursing through his very being. An all-round production dynamo, the Oslo-based creator is equally adept at crafting immersive sonic textures as striking visual imagery, expertly functioning as an inspired musical producer as well as a painter and visual artist.

In the spring of 2021, the 37-year-old talent arrived on Beatservice with his label debut – the utterly compelling deep house/meta-disco hybrid, 'Vill Falafel'. His powerfully individual music has also found a home on numerous other highly-respected imprints, including Eskimo, Full Pupp, Paper Recordings, and Aquavit Beat, among others. With a stubbornly eclectic sound signature, Boblebad's genre-defying back-catalogue includes gorgeously emotive Balearic soundscapes, brooding deep house grooves, adventurous journeys into electronica, deviant contemporary disco refinement, and all things between.

On top of his prowess as a studio technician and visual artist, he also plays trombone for a cultured Afrobeat band, as well as in a rousing, jazz-inspired big band. Indeed, his musical roots run incredibly deep, and as a youngster, Ulf cut his performance teeth while playing in a marching band alongside none other than Håkon Vinnogg – better known as the one and only Vinny Villbass.
