Recent Highlights

Summer is around the corner, and helping us usher it in with pizazz and cheer is @ray-mang. We're overjoyed; we've been close, captivated fans since the early days and have been looking for a project to slide his way since day one at LPH.

This particular journey started with a remix of SAIDÊRA's "Deixa Tudo Fluir," which LPH released earlier in the year. It's a feel-good samba song, magically both sunkissed and touched by a gentle pang of melancholia.

Mr. Mang magnified the presence of the rhythm section and imbued the whole arrangement with a playful patience, crafting a Brazilian-inflected disco jamboree that's tuned for sunset dance circles yet suited for all hands-in-the-air moments. Enjoy it alone or with groups small and large alike.

Rayko and James Rod continue to explore their Classics Of Arrikitaun, serving up a third volume of left-of-centre disco, boogie and Balearic edits. Label boss Rayko kicks things off, first serving up a driving, P-funk era disco-rock cut-up ("Boogie Nights"), before travelling into outer space via the cosmic disco/nu-disco/psychedelic boogie fusion of "Bamboo". James Rod opts to calm things down a bit with the taut drum breaks, twinkling pianos and crotch-stirring strings of "Groove of Midnight", a Love Unlimited Orchestra rework with tasty new synths. He rounds off a fine package with the hustling groove, well-placed dub delays and sweeping strings of "Strange Games".

A suitably wonky electro offering for Christmas 2020 from Heavenly-signed Australian disco-pop band Confidence Man and remixer Ché Wilson (AKA Guevarism), giving their sleigh-bell laiden 2018 release ’Santa’s Comin’ Down The Chimney’ an eery update, moving into techno, hip-house and breakbeat territory as the track progresses.
 
Confidence Man are unarguably one of the hottest acts on the planet right now. A portable party that’s levelled dance floors and flattened festival crowds as it’s rolled out across the world, their performances are custom designed to make you dance and lose your cool.
 
Previous remixes of Confidence Man from Greg Wilson have been collaborations with his son Ché Wilson (‘Out The Window’ in 2018 & ‘Does It Make You Feel Good?’ in 2020) combining Greg’s rich dance music knowledge and life-long expertise as a disco and electro DJ, with Ché’s multi-instrumentalist music theory and production efforts, to create a retrospective but fresh take on modern dance music, which they explore in their newly launched cut-and-paste groove project ’The Emanations’ on Super Weird Substance.
 
Ché also co-runs the Liverpool-based secret location party and record label known as ‘Keep It Cryptic’, an exciting new underground art platform. We have previously premiered one of Ché’s earliest productions, an edit of the cult proto-acid Indian track from ’82, ‘Raga Bharav’ by Charanjit Singh, and since has had releases with Erbium Records this year launching his new cosmic breakbeat alias, Guevarism.

Beyond The Struttopshere is a collaboration between Leo Strutt (Strutt Bros DJs) and Ben Chetwood (Flying Mojito Bros, Damian Lazarus’s Ancient Moons) aimed at channelling their considerable musical production experience and boundless love of cosmic dark disco. Riding on the success of their first EP, released on Gouranga in late 2020, the boys are back with a second offering on Mélopée Records. The first track, Replicants, delivers a pounding hambone bassline, bolstered by an unrelenting 303, spacey sitar stabs and a futuristic vocal sample. Celestial Drift, the second, is cosmic disco banger that draws on elements of progressive trance and driving Italo. It comes complete with nuanced percussion, a titillating arpeggiator line and an array of galactic synth melodies. Remix duties are provided by Mexican dark disco wizard, Roliva, and Mélopée stalwart, Camilo Sanjuan. Strap yourselves in for an interstellar ride Beyond The Struttosphere!
