
President Cyril Ramaphosa, accompanied by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, has arrived in Angola to attend the 7th African Union-European Union Summit. The summit kicked off yesterday and will close today . “The 7th AU-EU Summit takes place at a time of unprecedented threats to global peace and security, ongoing conflicts in some regions of the world. “Other global challenges include an inclination to unilateralism on the part of certain states,” the Presidency said in a statement. The statement noted that the summit comes on the heels of the success, under the leadership of President Cyril Ramaphosa, of the 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, at the weekend. The African Union and the European Union contributed significantly to the consensus achieved during South Africa’s year-long G20 Presidency on the key issues facing the global economy and human society ,said the president in his statement

President Cyril Ramaphosa has noted the regrettable statement by President Donald Trump on South Africa’s participation in the 2026 G20 meetings. The G20 South Africa 2025 Leaders’ Summit  attended by several Heads of State and Goverment, was hailed by all those who attended the summit as one of the most  successful summits.  The summit produced a declaration that affirmed the indisputable strength and value of multilateralism in response to the most pressing challenges facing the world.  As the United States was not present at the summit, instruments of the G20 Presidency were duly handed over to a US Embassy official at the Headquarters of South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation. As one of the founding members of the G20, South Africa has always valued the spirit of consensus, collaboration and partnership that defines the G20 as the premier forum for international economic cooperation.  In keeping with this approach, the United States was expected to participate in all the meetings of the G20 during South Africa’s Presidency but unfortunately, it elected not to attend the G20 Leaders Summit in Johannesburg out of its own volition.  We are however pleased that US entities such as businesses and civil society organisations participated in large numbers in G20 related activities such as the B20 and the G20 Social. Addressing the nation on Sunday, President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed profound gratitude to the public for supporting South Africa’s G20 Presidency and helping the country showcase the spirit of ubuntu to world leaders. Drawing from Brazil's G20 Presidency, South Africa convened the G20 Social Summit to elevate the voice of civil society and ordinary citizens. More than 5,000 participants attended the summit, which was described as a vibrant celebration of the diversity and enthusiasm of global civil society. President Ramaphosa acknowledged that some residents may have been inconvenienced by the influx of international visitors, road closures, and other disruptions. President Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday, arrived in Maputo, Republic of Mozambique on a working visit for the 4th South Africa-Mozambique Bi-National Commission (BNC) from 02 - 03 December 2025, at the invitation of His Excellency President Daniel Fransisco Chapo. South Africa and Mozambique have strategic and fraternal relations developed during the fight against colonialism and apartheid.
Furthermore, today, President Ramaphosa will address the opening of the 4th BNC with Mozambique at the State House in Maputo and later visit the Inhambane Province to officiate at the launch of the Sasol Hydrocarbons Processing Integrated Infrastructure, in Temane, and address the South Africa-Mozambique Business Forum, in Vilankulo, respectively. The relationship between South Africa and Mozambique is co-ordinated through a framework of a Bi-National Commission (BNC), which is co-chaired by the two Presidents.

Government welcomes the latest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) results released by Statistics South Africa today (2 December 2025), showing that the economy grew by 0,5% in the third quarter of 2025. The growth marks the third consecutive quarter of growth following the 0,9% expansion in the second quarter. The continued improvement reflects the resilience of the South African economy and the impact of ongoing structural reforms to support inclusive and sustained growth. President Cyril Ramaphosa will this evening, deliver a keynote address at the Youth Employment Service (YES) 200 000 Jobs milestone. The event takes place at the GIBS Business School, Illovo, Johannesburg. This year’s theme, “Impact Multiplied. Futures Unlocked,” complements a historic milestone for South Africa’s largest private-sector-funded youth employment programme. YES has, to date, placed over 202 558 young South Africans in 12-month, quality work experiences, enabled by more than 1 900 corporate partners, and in turn injecting billions of investments into the economy through youth salaries. YES, has positioned itself as a key driver of South Africa’s economic transformation by focusing on digital and technological skills development. The programme participants include young people from social grant recipient households, and who are operating in sectors such as tourism, digital and SMMEs amongst others.

President Cyril Ramaphosa offers his deep condolences to the family and friends of former South African Revenue Service Commissioner Oupa Magashula who has passed away at the age of 63. President Ramaphosa’s thoughts are with the Magashula family, as well as friends and associates of the former Commissioner who held office from July 2009 to July 2013. Mr Magashula has passed away after an extended period of illness and hospitalisation. In his early career, he worked as a trade unionist before joining the corporate sector and the public service in the form of the South African Revenue Service. Following his SARS tenure, he held various leadership roles in business. President Ramaphosa said: “Oupa Magashula devoted his life to the development of our economy and the stimulation of entrepreneurship among a new business generation.

The Border Management Authority has released its second quarter performance results and unveiled its 2025–2026 festive season operational plan. The BMA says it achieved 92% of its performance targets for the quarter ending September 2025, despite ongoing capacity challenges. During this period, immigration officers processed over 9.28 million travellers, a 23% increase compared to the same time last year. Surveillance teams intercepted 8,135 people attempting to enter the country illegally, mostly from Lesotho, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Eswatini.

The South African Police Service’s (SAPS) National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola will today visit Saulsville hostel, west of Pretoria where 25 people were shot at the weekend. Police confirmed that 11 of those shot suffered fatal injuries, with the latest victim having succumbed to injuries while being treated at Kalafong hospital where all the victims had been taken to. Among the dead are a three-year-old and a 12-year-old child. The 14 others that were injured and are being treated in hospital. From Saulsville, General Mosemola will proceed to Brakpan, in Ekurhuleni where "Witness D" was shot and killed on Friday evening. Witness D recently appeared before the Madlanga Commission sitting in Pretoria.Police said that evidence gathered at the scene confirmed an AK47 automatic rifle was used in the commission of the crime. According to a preliminary investigation, Witness D arrived at his home just after 20:30 with his wife and as he was about to open the gate, he was shot and sustained wounds to his upper body.

President Cyril Ramaphosa hailed South Africa’s historic G20 Presidency as a resounding success both as a diplomatic achievement and a celebration of national unity. He expressed deep gratitude to all those who contributed to making South Africa’s G20 Summit a success. Briefing the media on the outcomes of Cabinet, Ntshavheni highlighted that the Cabinet noted the recent position of the United States regarding South Africa’s participation in the upcoming G20 Sherpa meeting and the expressed intentions to exclude South Africa, a G20 founding member, from participating in the 2026 G20 meetings. The Minister noted that the 2025 G20 Summit demonstrated the power of multilateralism and cooperation, and that Cabinet remains confident that multilateralism and cooperation are the path to shared prosperity for all people of the world. Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has confirmed that two officials from the Department of Basic Education (DBE) have been suspended with immediate effect following a breach that saw matric exam papers leaked to learners in Pretoria. Gwarube revealed the development during a media briefing on Thursday, saying the leak was detected through the system’s stringent marking processes. This year, over 900 000 candidates sat for the 2025 exams across 7 000 centres, supported by thousands of invigilators and more than 51 000 markers and moderators. Marking began on 1 December at 183 centres nationwide, and early in the process, markers in Gauteng picked up an abnormality in six English Home Language Paper 2 scripts. To ensure full accountability, Gwarube announced the establishment of a National Investigative Task Team (NITT), which will begin work within 24 hours

In an address marking Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day 2025, Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has examined South Africa’s healthcare system, challenging the current model of healthcare financing and advocating for transformative change. This global campaign is led by the UHC2030, which is a global, multi-stakeholder platform for accelerating sustainable progress towards UHC. It is hosted by the World Health Organisation (WHO), in collaboration with the World Bank and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). This initiative aims to ensure that all citizens receive quality, affordable healthcare without facing financial hardship. This is despite significant legal threats and challenges facing the implementation of the NHI Act, which is part of the country’s transformative agenda. He highlighted the affordability of a new HIV treatment, lenacapavir, initially priced at US$28 000 per person, now available for US$40 thanks to the Global Fund and other organisations. South Africa plans to launch lenacapavir, a ground-breaking long-acting HIV prevention method, as early as March 2026.
