Improvised practice session with the viola and Octatrack.  The other day, I found I could get the Octatrack to make synth bass lines out of samples of my viola.  So tonight I sought to recreate that.  This is all one take with viola and Octatrack - the only overdubbing was using the Octatrack's pickup machine (looper) functions.

I'll delete this track eventually as this is just a demo of some interesting sounds I found in this machine.

First track with Alex Mathieu's wonderful new app Sliver (http://matheusound.net/sliver/).  I loaded an audio file of myself playing acoustic guitar, then played with Sliver's controls.  Sliver's UI is well-designed and easy to use for the most part.  I look forward to digging deeper into this app's feature set.

Remake of the original drone piece with a real Korg MS-20 Mini and real analog delay pedal.  Sorry about the silence at the end - I still haven't figured out how to trim silence at the end of a master track in my Zoom R8.

Music For Denver Airport

The original version of Chez Knuckles, as composed/arranged on Korg M01D for Nintendo 3DS.  I had another title in mind, originally, but then Frankie Knuckles passed away so the song sort of became a tribute.

Marx Madness

Demo of the "Transcendental Dolphin" preset, featuring the Resonator algorithm in the Eventide H9 Max.  Resonator is 4 staggered comb filters.  Parameters include delay length, rhythm, feedback, resonance, reverb, and the notes of each of the 4 filters.   You might be able to hear when I hit certain notes that happen to resonate with one of the 4 comb filters.

Daramad is a sort of prelude to a Persian classical music performance.  Hopefully my teacher isn't too offended.

Recorded from H9 straight into Zoom R8.  Sorry for the low signal level - next time I'll probably record from the mixer instead of straight from the H9.

Improvisation in Borderlands Granular 2, using audio files created in Xynthesizr and ThumbJam.  Third audio file was a Suzuki Andes 25F recorded into iPad mic.

Executive Panel (BG Remix)

I was inspired by a demo of a "dirty reverb" pedal to try some effects chains on the Octatrack.  I set up a project like this:

Track 1 - Thru Machine with Filter (unused - FX1 default) and Plate Reverb in FX2 slot. Reverb time set long so the FX in Track 2 swell after it.

Track 2 - Neighbor Machine (Track 1 as input) with LoFi in FX1, Delay in FX2. LoFi set to with BRR (Bit Rate Reduction) close to middle, ring mod section set up more like a tremolo effect.

Track 3 - Pickup Machine w/ Filter and Spring Reverb. Simple looper with LFO1 set to modulate pitch with Random waveform, LFO2 and LFO3 set to modulate filter width and Q respectively.

Track 4 - Flex Machine with Record Trigger, source set to Track 1 output, LoFi in FX1, Spring Reverb FX2. With the Record Trigger, this track is sampling Track 1 once every 16 steps of the sequencer. This track's LoFi also has a moderate BRR setting, with the ring mod side set to sound more like ring mod. 

Unfortunately, once I started recording I forgot to highlight the idea of distortion and bit crusher swelling after reverb or delay, as well as the other possible sounds.

Apple released a new app called Music Memos.  The app listens to you playing/singing/whatever through the mic, then creates bass and drum parts to go with it. 

My first experiment with it.  Will be deleted after a short time.
