Grand Prize Winners From Last Year - "Ntro"

Atlanta based Grand Prize Winners From Last Year (or GPWFLY) has been together since 2012. They have performed with award winning artists Cee-Lo Green, Janelle Monae, The Roots and Kid Cudi to name a few, and mostly recently were featured in BET's The Bobby Brown Story as Bobby's touring band. Their music consists of live instrumentation blended with digital sounds and has drawn comparisons to B.O.B., Prince, and Bruno Mars. Converse Shoes selected GPWFLY as winners of their Global Sponsorship program in 2015 and they’ve been featured in major publications including The Fader and Rolling Stone Magazine where J. Edward Keyes wrote:
“Think full-band Outkast: These fellow ATLiens blend Dre and Big Boi's knack for nimble rhymes with weirdo spaced-out funk horns and rock making snarling songs that swivel and pounce.”
The band itself was formed in early 2012 when these three HBCU grads came together with a singular goal in mind: to resurrect some of the creativity they enjoyed in the music of their youth. "We don't think, act, dress, or sound like any other group so we feel that we are able to bring a unique experience to people who are ready for something new in pop music. A lot of artists today are afraid to be themselves but we thrive on being the difference. We try to accomplish this in our music by experimenting and combining say a late 80’s or early 90’s feel with more updated styles and textures.” The result is a sound that has won GPWFLY tons of acclaim in their hometown of Atlanta. The Georgia Music Awards nominated them for best Hip Hop Group in 2018 and the video for their single “Electric Blue” was featured at the Atlanta Film Festival where GPWFLY performed along with Fuse TV's Big Freedia. In addition the band has had several songs licensed for use on TV in ABC's Scandal, IFC's Portlandia, and E News Live. Their new album was recorded in Stankonia Studios (the home of Outkast) and is set for release in 2019.
