JoeBig recently played Hydra Records 3 year anniversary alongside Esseks, Neumonic, Die by the Sword and the Hydra and friends crew at the Tangent Gallery in Detroit!  It's hard to imagine JoeBig without thinking about some of the best in the Dubstep game, his selections and overall positive influence on our community is exactly what we all picture and the respect for him is more than deserved. Greetings and welcome back to our synodically recurring mix series 'Styles'. A new mix series aimed at showcasing unique styles and subgenres nestled amongst the broad landscape of electronic dance music. For our fifth episode, GRA co-founder, Suspect, has curated a palpitating 33 minute mix that dives headfirst into the high energy world of Neurobreaks. Be sure to lock in and bump up the volume a notch for this thrilling journey!

"Neurobreaks (AKA neuro breaks) is an aggressive subgenre of Breakbeat that combines the genre's grooves and rhythms with the sound design of Neurofunk, particularly the characteristic reese bass. Often sitting around the 120-140 BPM range, the genre has its origins in Nu Skool Breaks and its subgenre Tearout Breaks, and it can effectively be considered a slowed down form of neurofunk. Culprate’s 2017 song "Phantom" is considered to be foundational to the sound of neurobreaks, although the idea of combining breakbeat with neurofunk had been conceptualized on online forums before. Other notable pioneers include Screamarts, Pluvio and AKOV who founded Symbiotik Records in 2021."

While creating the track "Stay with me," I aimed to build a strong Drum & Bass rhythm. I carefully selected the drum and bass elements to create an energetic and memorable foundation. I tried to keep the melody simple yet impactful, so it could convey both movement and emotion to the listener. My inspiration came from everyday life and the relationships around me; therefore, the track creates an atmosphere that invites you to dance while carrying an intimate feeling.
