Hello, and welcome to the first installment in our synodically recurring mix series 'Styles'.

A brand new mix series aimed at showcasing unique styles and subgenres nestled amongst the broad landscape of electronic dance music. Throughout this series, you will be treated to a tasteful blend of mixing skills and proper tracklist curation provided by the in-house G.R.A crew, as we explore the breadth and depth of what electronic dance music culture has to offer. To kick things off, we have an magnificent exhibition of the halftime style from one of our founding members, Alejo. As you listen, you will find this 38-minute journey tapping into various eras in the history of halftime music as it guides you on a journey of bumps, bops and grooves. Enjoy!

"Halftime is a subgenre of drum and bass music that combines elements of hip-hop, dubstep, and other electronic music styles. It is characterized by a slower tempo (usually around 85-95 BPM) and a heavy emphasis on bass and drums. The drums are often syncopated and have a more hip-hop feel than traditional drum and bass. Halftime DnB also often incorporates elements of dubstep, such as wobbles and distorted basslines."

Yoooo - Welcome back once again to our synodically recurring mix series, ‘Styles’! As we cross the halfway point in our 2025 Styles journey, we circle back to Ep. 01 curator and GRA founding member Alejo. For this episode, he presents to us a tasteful 40 minute selection of tunes from the classic electronic subgenre known as Jungle. Whether you are unfamiliar with the genre or a seasoned raver from back in the good old days the 90s, this mix is sure to be a high energy treat. 

“Emerging from the urban landscapes of London in the early 1990s, jungle music was a fusion of various electronic styles, including breakbeat, hardcore, and reggae. Characterized by its frenetic breakbeats, heavy basslines, and chopped-up samples, jungle music captured the energy and diversity of the city's multicultural communities. One of the defining features of jungle music was its use of the "Amen break," a drum break sampled from the track "Amen, Brother" by The Winstons. This iconic breakbeat, with its rapid-fire snare drums and syncopated rhythms, became a cornerstone of jungle music, providing the backbone for countless tracks in the genre.”
